The Relationship between Installation Art and Dance: How somatic practices influence choreographic process and installation art.
Location: Shanghai
What Project is
PART ONE
The Somatic Practice in dance refers more specifically to the primary focus on the individual dancer's physical sensations and experience, rather than performance for the audience. Similarly, installation art transforms, creates, and activates a space by using various materials to express people's feelings and perceptions.
The purpose of the project is to examine the choreographic processes of dancers who incorporate dance into installation art in New Zealand and China. In particular the study looks at the use of somatic practices to generate choreography that encourages embodied thinking and promotes a person-centered approach to dance-making.
We have divided the project into 8 workshops, each with a different theme and a choreographic process using different materials for the dance installation. In each workshop we use Somatic dance as the basis for designing the installation for artistic participation. In this workshop, you will have access to the world's first dance experience on the integration of Somatic Practice and Installation Art, thanks to your valuable contribution to the academic world of dance.
