Huang Wen, a man from Changde, Hunan province, received a death sentence with a two-year reprieve on Monday for endangering public safety through dangerous means, as reported by Xinhua News Agency. The Changde Intermediate People's Court also stripped him of political rights for life.
The court detailed that on the morning of November 19, at 7:37 a.m., Huang deliberately drove his car into a group of primary school students. When his vehicle malfunctioned and came to a stop, he exited and continued his assault using a handheld object. The attack left 30 individuals injured, including 18 primary school students, and caused significant damage to both public and private property. Huang was apprehended at the scene.
Investigations revealed that Huang carried out the crime to express personal frustration over financial losses and family disputes. The court described his actions as targeting random, innocent victims with particularly malicious and deplorable intent.
Huang timed the attack to coincide with the students' arrival at school, exploiting the crowded environment to maximize harm. His actions resulted not only in physical injuries and property damage but also left witnesses, including children, with severe psychological trauma, according to the court.
