Since 2004
Recently, Guangzhou Customs officers at Baiyun International Airport intercepted a foreign male passenger whose suspicious behavior and nervous demeanor drew attention during the inspection of an inbound flight. Upon questioning and investigation, customs officials suspected the man of concealing drugs internally and handed him over to anti-smuggling authorities.
The individual was immediately taken to a designated medical facility for further examination. Under supervision, he expelled 25 drug capsules. Laboratory analysis confirmed the capsules contained 339.95 grams of cocaine and 0.94 grams of heroin.
In recent years, international drug trafficking syndicates have increasingly adopted varied and risky methods for smuggling, including using body-packing techniques. They have also exploited vulnerable groups such as the elderly, disabled individuals, and pregnant women to carry or conceal drugs.
Customs authorities remind the public that, according to Article 347 of China’s Criminal Law, smuggling, trafficking, transporting, or manufacturing drugs, regardless of quantity, constitutes a criminal offense and will result in severe legal penalties. Those caught smuggling drugs face harsh consequences, including long-term imprisonment or even the death penalty.
