A 25-year-old model, Yang Zeqi, has been reported missing at the Thailand-Myanmar border, sparking widespread concern after her family made a public appeal for assistance on social media on January 8, 2025. The incident, which occurred in December 2024, closely resembles the disappearance of actor Wang Xing in 2022, according to local reports.
Yang’s cousin confirmed the family's plea on social media, stating that they had already reported the case to the police. On January 8, police in Baoding, Hebei, officially opened an investigation. According to the cousin, the details shared online were accurate, and the family had been in constant contact with the authorities since Yang's disappearance.
The troubling events began on December 8, 2024, when Yang saw a casting call in a WeChat group. She expressed interest in a project, submitted her details, and participated in a video audition. Yang was soon selected for the role, and the production arranged for her travel to Thailand.
On December 20, Yang boarded flight VZ3719 from Beijing Daxing Airport, arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok at 6:16 AM local time. After arriving in Thailand, she was picked up by a vehicle arranged by the film crew. At 2:59 PM local time, she changed to another vehicle provided by the production, and the last GPS location placed her at the Thailand-Myanmar border, near Mae Sot.
The next day, on December 21, Yang sent a distress message to a friend. Shortly after, her phone was turned off, and she lost all contact with her family and friends. Upon receiving the distress message, the friend immediately contacted Yang’s parents, and they filed a police report.
On December 29, Yang was able to make a brief video call to her mother, confirming she was still alive. During the call, Yang appeared disheveled, wearing black clothing, and seated at a table with her hands resting on it. There were visible marks near her eyes, suggesting physical injury. Her condition was clearly concerning. Shortly after the call, Yang’s phone was turned off again, and she went missing once more.
Yang’s family, including her cousin, have been in touch with the Chinese embassies in Thailand and Myanmar, hoping to receive help in locating the young woman. They have also sought assistance from international organizations. Photos shared by her cousin show Yang’s appearance during the video call, and the family's distress is evident, with her mother reportedly so devastated that her vision was affected by excessive crying.
Born in 2000 in Baoding, Hebei Province, Yang was known for her vibrant personality and had previously worked as a model, appearing in both films and numerous print advertisements. Her family described her as a "sunny and cheerful boy," which makes her sudden disappearance even more troubling. The family has expressed deep concern for her safety, and her cousin emphasized how devastated her mother is, stating that the emotional toll on her has been overwhelming.
The authorities, including the Chinese embassies, are continuing their investigation, and hopes remain high that Yang will be found safe soon. However, the uncertainty surrounding her fate continues to weigh heavily on her family, who are desperately waiting for any news.
