In a bizarre twist of fate, a job seeker, identified as Xiao Yang, found himself ensnared in a well-orchestrated scam while interviewing for a position at a construction company. The incident, which took place recently, has raised alarms about the potential dangers lurking in the job market.
According to reports, during the interview, the company's representative suggested testing Xiao Yang’s social skills by inviting him to play a popular card game, "Dou Di Zhu," in a nearby gaming room with two other players. Over the course of 19 rounds, Xiao Yang lost more than 15,000 yuan (approximately $2,100), leaving him reeling from the unexpected financial blow.
Upon returning home, Xiao Yang began to suspect that something was amiss and subsequently reported the incident to the police. Investigations revealed that multiple job seekers had fallen prey to the same scheme while attempting to secure positions at the company, which was ultimately identified as a shell corporation with no legitimate business operations. The group behind this scam was found to have lured applicants with fake job postings, disguising their criminal intentions under the guise of evaluating social skills through gambling.
Authorities confirmed that the scam had affected numerous victims, leading to financial losses amounting to several hundred thousand yuan. Following the investigation, all members of the criminal organization were apprehended and detained for their roles in the fraudulent activities.
Netizens reacted strongly to the news, expressing their disbelief and frustration. One user commented, "This is outrageous! How can companies exploit job seekers like this? It’s time for stricter regulations in the hiring process." Another added, "It’s disheartening to see people take advantage of those desperate for jobs. This should serve as a warning to all job hunters to stay vigilant."
