In a shocking turn of events, a 57-year-old Malaysian woman, identified as Chen Wangui (transliteration), was charged in Johor Bahru on November 10 for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of her husband, a wealthy 59-year-old businessman surnamed Lin. The case has drawn significant public attention, especially as the couple recently celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary in August, with Chen often sharing glimpses of their family life on Facebook.

The incident occurred on October 13 at 5 a.m. outside Lin's residence in Johor Bahru, as he prepared to take a taxi to the airport. Reports indicate that three masked assailants armed with wooden sticks and a pistol forcibly abducted him, leaving behind a mobile phone to contact Chen.

The kidnappers demanded a ransom of RM30 million (approximately $6 million). Lin’s family and friends managed to raise and pay RM20 million, securing his release by noon the same day. The police were alerted later that evening.

Following the incident, authorities launched an investigation and arrested 14 suspects, including 10 locals and 4 foreigners. Among them were three women, with Chen emerging as a key suspect.

Although police have not disclosed details of her alleged involvement, it is widely speculated that she played a central role in orchestrating the abduction. Chen was detained twice to assist with investigations before being formally charged.

If convicted, Chen could face up to 40 years in prison and possible caning, a punishment usually reserved for severe crimes in Malaysia.

The case has left many in disbelief, with social media users expressing shock over the idea of a wife masterminding her husband’s kidnapping. One commenter remarked, "It’s unbelievable that someone could do this after 36 years of marriage."
