A mother in Guangzhou, southern China, has drawn widespread criticism after a shocking incident where she assaulted a shop employee and bit a security guard. The altercation erupted after her son was caught stealing milk tea on November 12.
The situation began when the woman, accompanied by her two sons, visited a local milk tea shop. One of the boys secretly grabbed a cup of milk tea that was left on the counter for a customer and drank it. A female staff member caught him and scolded him for the act.
“Who told you to put it there?” the mother shouted in defense of her son.
The staff member responded firmly, saying, “Is it justified for your kid to steal the milk tea?”
A viral video captured the mother's enraged reaction. She ran toward the employee, kicked her, grabbed her hair, and dragged her out of the shop before violently pushing her to the ground.
As a male passer-by attempted to intervene, another woman in the crowd was heard saying, “You are not right to do this.” Undeterred, the mother continued her tirade before trying to leave with her sons.
Her escape was thwarted by a security guard who held onto her arms to prevent her from fleeing. “Loosen your hands,” she demanded, to which the guard replied, “I will only relax if you will not leave.”
The situation escalated further when the mother unexpectedly bit the guard, prompting him to slap her. She eventually broke free but, in a final alarming move, pulled a fruit knife from her bag and waved it at stunned bystanders.
The shop employee later went to the hospital for a check-up and reported the attack to the police. Authorities have since launched an investigation, but it remains unclear if the mother has been detained.
The incident has sparked a wave of condemnation on Chinese social media. One netizen remarked, “It is so unlucky for her sons to have such a mother.” Another praised the security guard’s actions, saying, “Bravo to the security guard! He acted in a way I wish I could have.”
