A Texas woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to sell her unborn child through a Facebook post, authorities say. According to the Houston Police Department, the woman, who remains unnamed, sought to find an adoptive family but later requested a “minimum of US$150” for the child. This request led to her arrest and subsequent charges of sale or purchase of a child. Her bond has been set at US$30,000.

Court records reveal that on September 22, two days before she was due to give birth, the woman posted in a Facebook group designed to connect birth mothers with potential adoptive parents. In her initial request, she expressed her desire to avoid having the baby placed in foster care, seeking someone who could be present during her labor and take the newborn home directly.

Earlier, on September 21, the woman had contacted a family member, requesting assistance in locating a family to adopt her baby boy. The family member then made a public post on Facebook, asking for interested individuals to help the woman find a suitable home for her unborn child. According to the post, the woman wanted to ensure that her baby would not enter the foster care system, indicating that she hoped to arrange a direct adoption.

However, the situation took a concerning turn when the woman allegedly informed the family member that she wanted financial compensation for the baby. Upon hearing this, the family member reportedly warned her that such a transaction was illegal. Despite the warning, the woman pursued the arrangement, resulting in law enforcement intervention.

The incident has sparked significant online debate, with many netizens voicing their shock and condemnation. One user commented, "How can someone even think of putting a price tag on a child? It's disturbing." Another pointed out the vulnerabilities in the adoption process, saying, "There need to be better safeguards to prevent situations like this. Desperation shouldn't lead to illegal actions."

Some users expressed empathy, highlighting the woman’s possible financial struggles. "It's tragic that she felt this was her only option. We need more support systems for struggling parents," read one comment. Others, however, stressed the importance of adhering to legal adoption processes, asserting that the law exists to protect the rights of children.
