专刊简介
Food packaging encloses food products in wrapped pouches, bags, boxes, cups, trays, cans, tubes, bottles or other containers, performing functions such as containment, protection, preservation, communication, utility and performance. Traditional food packaging materials play essential roles in preserving food and conveying important product information. Recently, novel trends in active and intelligent food packaging have emerged focusing on sustainability. Innovative materials, designs, and fabrication techniques are being explored to enhance food safety and quality, thereby benefiting consumers and reducing food waste. This special issue welcomes review papers in the field of emerging food packaging, including but not limited to1) novel food packaging materials; 2) novel food packaging techniques; 3) functional food packaging solutions; 4) sensors for smart food packaging; and 5) AI-enabled food packaging systems. Moreover, we encourage submissions that address food packaging regulations, life cycle assessment, recycling of food packaging materials, and the migration of substances from packaging materials.
