Dear all,
In January and February, I will offer a new course on Heidegger's Philosophy: Martin Heidegger's "Insight Into That Which Is",
which is one of the most famous and most important texts of Heidegger's
Philosophy. He gave this lecture 1949 in Bremen, offering "Insights"
about Technology, about the Enframing (das Gestell), about the Danger that comes with it, and about the Turning (Kehre). Heidegger's lecture is about our own current time and about where we are heading, our dark future.
This
course is a lecture+reading course on Heidegger's "Insight Into That
Which Is". We will meet 8 times, for 90 minutes. I will explain,
summarize, guide through the text; and we will read the most important
parts together. The text is in total 73 pages long, which means we have
plenty of time to read and discuss it within our 8 lectures. We will
read about 5 pages together every week. The Homework will be to read about 4 pages every week and to ask and prepare questions.
Everybody
who is interested to learn something about Heidegger's understanding of
technology is welcome in this course. You do not need any previous
knowledge of Heidegger's Philosophy; but there will be parts of this
text that are probably impossible to understand in your first reading.
As a teacher, I'll help with these parts and explain everything in more
detail. I will also provide context about Heidegger's Philosophy and
about his philosophy of technology within the broader landscape of
Western Philosophy.
The difficulty of this text is 6/10. For comparison: I'd give Being and Time a
7/10. Which is also why it is good to have guidance and a group of
like-minded people for questions and discussions. Reading this text on
your own might be very difficult.
