- When: Every Wednesday for 4 Weeks: December 6th, Dec. 13th, Dec. 20th, and Dec. 27th, 晚上 7:00-09:00pm
You get a Full Course on Heidegger's Concept of Truth + Discussion Group + Reading Materials + Reading List (2ndary Literature) + Recordings + Early Access to the Martin Heidegger Academy
Course-Description: Four Lectures for you to learn about Heidegger's understanding of truth: from propositional truth (-1916) to evidential truth (-1920), to transcendental truth (-1927), to being-historical truth (1930-1976). And: to learn about the problems and shortcomings of different theories of truth: focussing on the paradigmatic "correspondence theory of truth."
1.
... from understanding truth as an attribute of propositions in the
earliest works (informed by Neokantians like H. Rickert), (propositional truth) -until 1916
2. ... to an evidence-based understanding of truth (adapted from Husserl), (evidential truth) -until 1925
3. ... to a transcendental understanding of truth (following Kant) (transcendental truth) -until 1930
4. ... to his understanding of the Ereignis of truth in the 1930s and onwards (being-historical Truth). -till 1976.
The goal is to understand this transformation and the necessity that led Heidegger from one to the other. But not only because we want to know what Heidegger has to say. Rather, we assume that this can contribute to the eternal philosophical problem of truth and therefore can be valuable for everyone's lives. We are not only learning something about Heidegger but also about truth as such.
Note: There will be also a German course (every Thursday) with roughly the same content. Only German instead of English. Good for Language-Learners.
These lectures will be based on selected readings of essential texts from Heidegger's Gesamtausgabe:
Heidegger GA 1 (Diss./Habilitation), Heidegger GA 21 (Logik: Die Frage nach der Wahrheit), Heidegger GA 2 (Being and Time), Heidegger GA 9 (“The Essence of Truth”), Heidegger GA 73.1 (On Thinking the Ereignis)
Active Participation
(asking questions, answering questions, preparing for the courses,
contributing) is rewarded with free access to future courses. The goal
is to build a group of "experts" and friends that can help each other
and have meaningful conversations.
Requirements:
Can you speak and understand English? better than average understanding
might be required, because we will talk about philosophical problems.
Otherwise, do you need any preknowledge of Heidegger or Philosophy? Not
necessarily! This course is for philosophers and nonphilosophers! for
everyone who is interested to learn something about Heidegger+Truth.
