A disturbing case of bullying in a Chinese boarding school has shocked the public after a Primary Six girl was severely abused by a male classmate. The boy reportedly stabbed her over 200 times with the needle of a sewing awl and forced her to eat paper and pencil lead.
The sewing awl, typically used to puncture materials, caused serious injuries. According to the victim, the 7 to 8 cm needle was "almost entirely" inserted into her thigh and arms, leaving her in severe pain. "I wanted to die," she tearfully said, recalling the agony she endured. Photos shared online show multiple scars and pinprick holes on her leg and school uniform.
In addition to the physical abuse, the girl was also blackmailed and isolated by her peers at the school in Shandong province. Her mother claims that the boy told classmates his father was "the principal’s friend," which may have contributed to the school’s lack of intervention. When the girl reported the bullying to a teacher, she was merely told to seek medical treatment and avoid provoking others.
In August, a meeting was held to discuss the case, involving school officials, a lawyer, and a police officer. However, the majority of participants decided that the incident did not meet the criteria for school bullying, sparking outrage online.
Chinese netizens expressed disbelief and anger at the decision. "This is not just bullying, it's intentional injury," commented one user on Weibo. Another user added, "The school is the biggest perpetrator."
