A Chinese school’s controversial new rule has ignited a firestorm of criticism online after it banned students from using the restroom after 11 p.m. The rule, which classifies late-night bathroom visits as a “serious violation,” has left students and netizens baffled.

Students were shocked when they were told that going to the bathroom late at night could now be considered a major offense, something traditionally associated with fighting, cheating, or skipping classes. “It’s absurd to think even holding in your bladder could be a rule violation,” one student lamented.

The regulation has drawn sharp rebukes from netizens. One commenter sarcastically noted, “It seems like the school is now controlling our bladders. What’s next? A biological clock to dictate when we can use the restroom?”

Critics have questioned the rationale behind the policy, pointing out that such rules do nothing to support students' academic performance or overall well-being. “Does holding it in at night make your grades shoot up? Can you suppress physiological needs by sheer willpower?” a frustrated netizen asked.

Students feel trapped by the rule, fearing they’ll be caught between violating the regulation or risking health issues. As one student described it, “It’s a dilemma. If I hold it in, I’m afraid of getting sick. If I go, I’m worried about being labeled a violator.”

Some have also highlighted the hypocrisy of the situation. “Does the principal not need to go to the bathroom after 11 p.m.?” asked one netizen, suggesting that school officials should try to follow the rule themselves to understand its absurdity.

The policy reportedly stems from concerns about students sneaking off to smoke at night, but many see it as lazy management. “Instead of targeting a few smokers, the school is punishing everyone. It’s like locking the school gates because some people are late,” a comment read.
