In a shocking case that has gripped the nation, a man named Li Ensheng voluntarily surrendered to police after killing his wife, mother-in-law, and stepdaughter, bringing a tragic end to what began as a story of hope and second chances.
Li Ensheng, a 39-year-old ordinary worker from Liaoning Province, had previously experienced a failed marriage before meeting Du Lan, who operated a local courier station. Despite Du Lan being upfront about her circumstances - a single mother with a 13-year-old daughter and outstanding debts from her courier business - Li saw potential for a fresh start.
The couple's courtship led to marriage in September 2022, but not before Li had to meet substantial financial demands from Du Lan's mother. The prerequisites included a bride price of 200,000 yuan, a new car as dowry, and adding Du Lan's name to his property deed. Li, determined to build a happy family, depleted his life savings to meet these conditions.
However, the dream of marital bliss quickly unraveled. After marriage, Du Lan expressed dissatisfaction with their living conditions, prompting Li to borrow heavily from friends and relatives to purchase a larger house. He even sold his previous residence to fulfill his wife's wishes, accumulating significant debt in the process.
The situation deteriorated further when Li discovered that the 70,000 yuan he had given Du Lan for home renovations had mysteriously disappeared, with the renovation company allegedly absconding with the funds. More disturbing revelations followed as Li learned through friends that his wife maintained an intimate relationship with her ex-husband, Zhu Xiaojun, who frequently visited their home during Li's absence.
