Spanish travel influencer Fernanda, known for her "Motorcycle World Tour" blog, has recently entered China with her husband and a support team, marking a new chapter in her journey after a harrowing experience in India earlier this year.
In March, Fernanda and her 60-year-old husband, who had amassed over 300,000 followers documenting their global adventures, faced a horrific ordeal in India. While camping due to a lack of hotel accommodations, they were attacked by a group of seven men. Fernanda was sexually assaulted for over three hours while her husband was beaten and forced to watch.
Initially, the couple struggled to get help from local authorities. They eventually took to social media to share their story, which quickly gained international attention. Under pressure, Indian officials arrested the perpetrators and reportedly compensated the couple.
Controversially, after leaving India, the couple released a documentary titled "Ordeal in India" but also praised India as a "great country," stating that it shouldn't be judged by this incident alone. This apparent reversal led to a backlash from their followers, with many accusing them of exploiting the situation for publicity.
Now, six months after the incident, Fernanda has announced their entry into China via the Gyirong Port. In stark contrast to their previous travel style, the couple is now accompanied by a substantial team, including five motorcycles and a support vehicle, totaling over a dozen people.
Fernanda expressed excitement about visiting China for the first time, describing it as "a country to look forward to." Photos shared on social media show the group being warmly welcomed at the border, with smiles all around.
However, the scale of their China tour has raised eyebrows among netizens. Many question how a mid-tier influencer could afford such an extensive entourage, speculating about potential sponsorship. The high-profile nature of their entry into China, which has dominated global social media trends, particularly in Chinese networks, has also fueled speculation about the true nature of their visit.
One netizen commented, "Leather pants over fur pants, is there any other reason for this? (I hope they're not coming with colored glasses to view us)," hinting at potential ulterior motives behind the visit.
Despite these speculations, many Chinese netizens have welcomed Fernanda and her team, hoping their experience in China will be positive and help them overcome their traumatic past. There's also curiosity about how their China adventure will unfold and whether it will boost their follower count.
Ultimately, as one commenter noted, "Guests are always welcome. We hope they have a joyful and pleasant time here." The world will be watching to see how this chapter of their journey unfolds in what is often described as one of the safest countries for travelers.
