A Chinese social media influencer with 2.78 million followers has sparked public outrage after posting a video of herself eating pig feed as part of a "minimal living cost challenge."
Kong Yufeng, known online as "Dawang Kong Liuke," claimed she could sustain herself on just 3 yuan (approximately $0.41) per day by consuming animal feed, suggesting it was "healthier than takeout food."
In the controversial video, Kong is seen attempting to eat pig feed, immediately reacting to its extremely salty taste with visible discomfort. The stunt, intended to demonstrate extreme budget living, has drawn widespread criticism from netizens and legal experts alike.
The video quickly went viral on Chinese social media platforms, with many viewers expressing concern about the state of content creation. "Has the world gone this crazy?" commented one user, while others accused the influencer of hitting new lows for views and engagement.
Legal experts have weighed in on the controversy. Nie Weichang, a practicing lawyer from Chongqing, explained that while there's no explicit law prohibiting humans from consuming animal feed, the content violates China's internet content regulations. "According to Article 4 of the Network Information Content Ecological Governance Regulations, content creators must adhere to public order and good morals," Nie stated. He emphasized that such content could be deemed vulgar and contrary to social ethics.
The lawyer further pointed out that such videos could negatively influence younger viewers, particularly minors, and compromise the goal of maintaining a healthy online environment. While the act itself may not be illegal under the principle that "what is not prohibited is permitted," it potentially violates content guidelines and social responsibility standards.
