A British businessman was charged with murder today following the discovery of an Indonesian domestic helper's body at a waterfall in southern Hong Kong.
The 34-year-old British national, who possesses a Hong Kong identity card, was apprehended alongside his wife at the high-speed railway station in West Kowloon upon their return to the city on Tuesday.
Authorities reported that the suspect accompanied the 25-year-old victim to Waterfall Bay Park near Wah Fu Estate at approximately 11pm on Sunday before leaving alone in a taxi.
The woman’s body was found at the base of the waterfall on Monday morning and is believed to have drowned after suffering trauma from a hard object.
The suspect’s wife, a 36-year-old local resident, was arrested on suspicion of aiding an offender.
She has since been released on bail and is required to report back to police later next month.
Police previously stated that while the couple knew each other, the man was not the victim’s employer.
