A tragic murder-suicide attempt unfolded in Penang, Malaysia, where a 32-year-old man allegedly killed 30-year-old Siti Zulaila Zulkifli and her 62-year-old father, Zulkifli Ibrahim, reportedly driven by unrequited feelings. The incident took place at around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday in a residential building in Bandar Baru Air Itam.
The suspect, who was found on the ground floor with multiple self-inflicted stab and cut wounds, was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police suspect that Siti Zulaila’s rejection may have triggered the man’s violent actions.
According to Penang police chief Hamzah Ahmad, initial investigations indicated that the man, armed with a knife, was behaving suspiciously before the attack. Upon arrival, police found Siti Zulaila and her father deceased with multiple stab wounds. The police arrested the suspect, seized the weapon, and stated that the case was now considered solved.
Hamzah emphasized that authorities are examining the motive from multiple perspectives but urged the public not to speculate on social media, as this could interfere with the investigation. He also requested that anyone who witnessed the incident come forward with any information.
Siti Zulaila, who worked at a hardware store, is survived by her twin sister, younger sister, and three children between 18 months and 10 years of age. Her father, who worked as a driver, was described as a caring family man. A family friend noted that the suspect was not romantically involved with Siti Zulaila and was not her boyfriend, contrary to online rumors.
The tragic nature of the case has stirred conversations in the community, with residents expressing disbelief and sadness over the senseless violence. Comments online range from expressing condolences to cautioning against judging the incident prematurely.
As investigations continue, a postmortem is scheduled for Friday to establish further details about the incident, and police urge the public to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
