A piano teacher who likened herself to "Mary Poppins" has been jailed after demanding sex from her boyfriend before pouring bleach on him and attacking him with a knife when he refused.
Marlena Meczynska-Shiibashi doused the man with the chemical after he'd fallen asleep, waking him up. As he fumbled for his clothes in the dark, the 37-year-old knifed him in the thigh - narrowly missing his penis.
A court heard the pianist then asked police if "it's in the genitals or not?" as they arrested her following the horrific attack at her flat in Hastings, East Sussex, in April last year. She pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Lewes crown court on Friday, where she claimed in evidence she had wanted to "harm his penis".
That evening, it was heard how Meczynska-Shiibashi tried to initiate sex, but the man told her "please don't." He later woke in terror to find her pouring the bleach. The man told the court he knocked the bottle from her hand, but realised there was liquid running down his leg, saying how he thought he must have wet himself out of fear at first.
"It was only when I looked down that I could work out it was blood from a wound," he told the court. "I then looked at her and could see she had a face absolutely full of rage and she was holding a knife. She was coming towards me with the knife."
Screaming in terror and trying to protect himself with a cardboard box, the man attempted to flee and was later found by police in the hallway covered in blood. The victim was rushed to hospital and treated for his injuries.
The pianist lists herself as a teacher on her Facebook profile, once writing: "I am a private piano teacher trained since I was 4. I charge 30 pounds per hour and am considered a 'piano Mary Poppins' in terms of encouraging children (and adults:-) to play."
Meczynska-Shiibashi told the court during her trial she had been the victim of serious sexual abuse and was acting in self-defence at the time, but the jury failed to believe her, finding her guilty at an earlier hearing in February.
She was locked up for seven years on Friday, with an added four years on licence. She was also imposed with an indefinite restraining order forbidding her from contacting the man.
Jailing her, Judge Laing KC, Recorder of Brighton and Hove, said: “I find you to be a liar and a very manipulative person who hides behind the story of serious abuse as an excuse to lash out a people both mentally and physically.”
