ButC.Duncan butD.Duncan, however, he 答案：C 解析：首先我们快速浏览选项，会发现D两个选项中没有出现任何可以连接句子的标点符号或者连词，B选项有句号，有but，C选项有but。那么这道题涉及到的还是句式结构的考点，可以先回到原文，去划分一下句子的主干结构，判断是否需要连接句子等。分析句子后，能确定句子主语是Duncan，谓语动词是sold，但是空格后面又出现了一个谓语continued，如果选择AD，就给第二个动词continued增加了一个主语，但是这样两句话没有合理连接会形成run-on错误。B选项用句号隔开，但是后面不是一个完整句。因此只有C选项是合理的，此处but连接两个并列的谓语动词 “sold” 以及 “continued”。
二、用BUT连接两个独立完整句
【常见形式】SVO, but SVO.SVO—but SVO. 例：It isn’t that he lied exactly, but he did tend to exaggerate. 【标点符号考点】在SAT考试中，but不能被独立用于连接两个完整句，前面要加逗号或者破折号！ 【真题演练2】In 1727, dramatist Lewis Theobald presented a new play, Double Falsehood, at a London theater. Theobald claimed that his drama was based on a little-known play by William Shakespeare, Cardenio. A.skeptical butB.skeptical, butC.skeptical,D.skeptical 答案：B 解析：先快速浏览选项，比对不同之处。AB选项中含有连词but，但是标点符号不同，CD选项中没有连词，也没有任何可以连接的标点符号。那么可以初步判断这道题可能在考察句式结构及是否需要连接句子。回到原文仔细阅读，会发现，划线部分前后均为完整的主谓宾结构，所以要选择合理方式连接句子。可以直接排除CD。在连接句子时，but前面需要加逗号，因此A错误。正确答案就是B。
三、not only… but also…句式
【常见形式】1)… not only单词/短语but also单词/短语.2)Not only+倒装句, but also SVO. 例： I have not only been to London but also been to LA.Not only have I been to London, but I have also been to LA. 【标点符号考点】如果并列的是单词短语，则but also前无需标点；如果并列的是独立完整句，则but also前需要逗号。 【真题演练3】The Steins not only helped promote modern art but also_______ the conversations about it.
