竞赛介绍
在本次竞赛中,我们鼓励参赛者通过去设计未来的街道来重新对都市空间展开想象——仅限两幅画作,但不限尺寸、选址和项目。参赛者需要提出一个关于街道的概念构思,能适应新时代的移动出行并适用于都市设计。
伴随着新的关于移动出行的看法出现,我们必须为街道管理、街道设计和移动出行创造去制定一套新的设计原则。而本次的竞赛目的是想通过构想一种新的关于都市移动出行的模式,去重新连接起大众,去重塑都市空间,并以此来推动街道进一步的发展。
“明日之街”是“明日都会”主题竞赛系列的一部分,旨在通过各种极富创意的设计概念和想法来重塑都市生活。而作为设计师,我们在重塑都市生活中能扮演怎样的角色?我们又该如何去产生些新的视角来触发对于其他的生活模式的讨论?
明日之街竞赛旨在期望通过重点关注都市地区中的移动出行来回应上述的这些问题。
SUMMARY
In this competition, we encourage participants to reimagine the urban space by designing the street of tomorrow – Only 2 drawings, absolute freedom of scale, site or program. Participants are asked to propose conceptual ideas of a street that accommodates a new era of mobility and urban design.
With a new perspective on mobility it must come a new set of design principles for street management, street design, and mobility creation. This competitions’ purpose is to carry streets forward by imagining a new paradigm on urban mobility that reconnects people and reimagines the urban space.
Street of Tomorrow is part of the “Cities of Tomorrow” competition series, developed to reimagine urban life through a variety of creative design concepts and ideas. What kind of role can we play as designers in reimagining urban life? How can we produce new inspiring visions to trigger a discussion around alternative models of living?
Street of Tomorrow aims to answer those questions with a particular focus on mobility in urban areas.

深水埗是香港的一处地区,在上世纪八十年代曾以其充满烟火气的街道和密仄的社会所闻名。然而随着车流量大日渐增多,社区的热闹氛围也逐渐消弭。因此,我们尝试去通过引入史无前例的可持续式都市交通模式,来重燃社区的活力。
Sham Shui Po is a district in Hong Kong prominent for its vibrant streets and close-knit society in the 80s. However, escalation in vehicular traffic smothered the exuberant ambience of the community. Consequently, we endeavour to rekindle community spirits by introducing an unprecedented sustainable mode of urban mobility.
在我们的方案当中,分布在那些看似令人厌恶的后巷的桁架轨道,负责去协助缆车使用的循环系统,或是去运输货物和废品。而主街将会变成市民的公共空间。当地的技工和小贩们都可以住在商店堂面里。而二楼增设的露台将支持来举办工作坊。这条街道将会成为一个处充满烟火和故事的社会空间,以自行车道为轴线,因为届时自行车将是人们出行的首要交通工具。
In our proposal, truss rails are arrayed along the seemingly obnoxious back alleys to facilitate a circular system designed for cable cars, of which are accountable for transport of goods and wastes. The main street now would evolve into a communal space for the citizens. Local craftsman and hawkers would lodge in the shopfronts. Meanwhile, addition of balconies on the second floor encourages the happenings of workshops.
而最终,街道将会成为社会纽带的摇篮,汽车的消散将会降低碳足迹,由此开创出可持续的生活方式。
The street would be an eventful social space with a cycling trail as its axis since bicycle serves as the prime mobility gadget for people to run errands. Ultimately, the street will be a cradle for social bonding to happen whereas the eradication of vehicles will reduce the carbon footprint, inaugurating a sustainable lifestyle.
随着城市的经济模式转向创新型和服务型,需要进口大量的资源。因此一个更能使有机物循环的系统过渡,其中有机和矿物循环在当地规模上是关闭的,将需要新的收集、运输和加工基础设施。这个提议使这样的基础设施几乎是可取的。
As our cities have turned into innovation and service economies, many require vast amounts of resources to be imported. A transition towards a more circular system in which organic and mineral cycles are closed on a local scale, will require new collection, transportation and processing infrastructure. This proposal makes an infrastructure like that almost desirable.

Highways have systematically and radically reshaped the built environment of our cities, making possible regional transportation and massive suburbanization of the metropolitan landscape. However, they also served to disconnect and disempower. Highways routinely reinforced physical, social, racial, environmental, economic and psychological divides that primarily destroyed underserved & underrepresented minority neighborhoods when they were planned.

Situated in a community that was once divided by a limited-access highway, this speculation explores a multi-phase scenario in which a highway is adaptively-converted from a negative community-dividing infrastructure that serves only single-occupancy vehicles, into a positive multi-functional infrastructure that fosters multi-modal shared forms of mobility, community-empowering social spaces and amenities, and environmentally sustainable outcomes.
为了能消除对汽车的空间需求并实施共享和自主交通形式,该推测制定了关于出行、社会和环境的策略,为改造公路、当地街道及其所划分的社区提供了线路图。连同针对公路路段拆除、新的开发住宅区及空地的不同类型,该策略将基础设施与其周遭的城市结构相结合,并为新的投入项目奠定好基础,以确保能长期能负担得起且保持着文化多样化的改善,以此使现存的社区受益,而不是取而代之。
Enabled by the implementation of shared & autonomous forms of transit that eliminate the space-demands of cars, the speculation lays out mobility, social, and environmental strategies that provide a roadmap for the transformation of a highway, the local streets, and the community it bisects. In conjunction with targeted highway-segment removals and new development & open space typologies, the strategy stitches the infrastructure to its surrounding urban fabric and lays the foundation for new investment that ensures long-term affordable and culturally-diverse improvements that benefit, rather than displace, the existing community.

MACTO,是美国国家城市交通官员协会(National Association of City Transportation)的英文简称,该组织曾有过一段著名的声明:“街道占据了都市80%以上的公共空间。”但又有多少公共空间是真正“公共”的呢?街道是通过都市网格被规划好的,而在城市叙事的推进中生产力往往是被优先考量。街道被用以满足车辆通行,首要考虑便是如何让A点到B点间的路径能最快速和最高效。也正是因此,人际互动需求在街道的服务层级里总是被滞后。
NACTO, also known as the National Association of City Transportation, has famously stated that “streets make up more than 80 percent of all public space in cities.” But how much of public space is truly public? The way that streets were designed in an urban grid, productivity was prioritized in the development of the urban narrative. Streets were catered towards vehicular access, prioritizing getting from point A to point B in the fastest, most efficient way possible. As a result, human interaction on the street scale became an afterthought.
而我们的方案就是要去颠覆这种剧本,去打散这些叙事,这些由被预设好体验方式的都市街道所主导的叙事。为什么我们不能把目的地给搬到眼前来消除我们对旅行的需要,让充满活力的可供人们互动的街景来充满公共空间。通过这个都市人造景观的项目,我们期盼在有朝一日,能把街道视作某个目的地,某个充满体验感的地方,能把公共和大众之间的亲密关系摆到首位。
Our proposal aims to flip this script and disturb the narrative which has dominated the ways in which urban streets were designed to be experienced. Why couldn’t we eliminate the need to travel, by having our destination come to us, filling the public space with a vibrantly interactive streetscape. Through The Urban Anthro-Scape, we aim to see the street of tomorrow as a destination, a place of experience, prioritizing the intimate relationship between the public and the people.

要论明日街道那我们必须要重视生命。生命之初始于土壤,而后土壤又滋养了大地上的生命。在这条新街道上,生命(行人、动物和植物)的位置占了大多数。这种与生物界的重新连接让我们能够掌握一个能使其功能得以适应气候灾害,同时又能使其结构保持高质量的城市系统。这条街道给出了真正的生态长廊,街道当中提供舒适的气候和湿度,并管理着水资源和重建了生态系统。
Street of tomorrow must give importance to living things. The basis of life starts from the soil, and this soil conditions life above and on the ground. The place of the living things (pedestrians, fauna and flora) is in majority in this new street. This reconnection with the living world allows us to acquire an urban system that adapts its functioning to climatic disruptions while preserving its qualitative structure. The street offers real ecological corridors that provide climatic and hygrometric comfort, manage water resource and reconstitute ecosystems.

This same ground offers sustainable, connected and shared mobility. The street becomes a single and inclusive ground, punctuated by plant-covered valleys gutter. They structure the different modes of transport that are proposed, ranging from slow to fast traffic. Private flows are deported into the air and shared mobility (bus and cars) takes part in this new street. One uses without owning. The street becomes an active ground that allows electric transport to be recharged while in motion thanks to a magnetic current between an electric coil in the ground and one in the vehicle. The street becomes a space for sharing that brings together the living world and the multitude of mobility.

The year is 2122 and the city of Yonkers has densified, mimicking the growing urban concentration of Manhattan. The uncontrollable sprawl of residential towers and commercial facilities have taken over. Yet, something appears strange, different. Dark alleys, empty lots, abandoned structures, all have adopted an ulterior intention. Instead of withering away, ignored by the city’s occupants, they have reclaimed a new purpose.
Ctrl+i项目是一处超越城市灰色地带的领域——那些在不断扩张的城市结构中被遗弃、被忘却、被淘汰的大地残骸。而这次项目的行动中会将这些都市的碎骸带到了最前列,并为它们注入振奋人心的用途。Ctrl+i项目将呈现一种共生且相向对应的体验,在建筑环境中穿插发展,形成一种相互交织、休戚相关的形态。而通过隐匿的手段,项目得以举办一系列从合法到非法的异位计划,不仅保留了用户在日常都市景观体验中能找到的基本元素,还有其非法的对应物。
Ctrl+i is a realm that overtakes the grey zones of the city – fragments of land within the expanding urban fabric that have been left ignored and obsolete. This operation brings to the forefront these pieces of the city, injecting them with an exciting purpose. Ctrl+i acts as a symbiotic and parallel experience that grows through built environment, forming an enmeshed relationship where one cannot exist without the other. Through operations of concealment, the project holds a series of heterotopic programs ranging from licit to illicit, preserving not only the essential elements that users seek to experience in common urban scape, but also their illicit counterparts.
用户可以通过激活VR的代理节点,来展露出隐藏的非法区域。通过某种特定的访问,例如一个应用程序,就能显露出原本隐匿起来的暗间。这一行动保留了世间对非法性的秘密需要,而这份秘密也正如我们现今所理解的一样,在“如果你有所了解,那你就会知道”的共识中,并存活于我们所悉的灰色地带当中。
By activating an agent of virtual reality, the user can reveal the concealed illicit zones. Through a particular access, an app for example, the otherwise hidden compartments are exposed. This act preserves the secrecy that illicit entails in the world as we understand it today, operating in an ‘if you know, you know’ nature, that is present in the gray zone as we know it.

在密集的都市地带投入机动车辆交通,必然会导致行人友好型交通的削弱,同时也会限制安全且活跃的公共领域。该方案着眼于改造都市内现存的大型车辆过道,将其视作创作的画布,以营造出活跃的公共环境,并增强其都市环境的特征、商业和功能。而这种都市设计和街道改造的方法,是利用特定场地的特征来呈现空间和建筑的类型。
Investing in motorized vehicle transit within dense urban locations has consequently resulted in the depreciation of pedestrian friendly forms of transportation, while limiting safe and active public realms. This proposal looks at the idea of transforming existing large vehicle corridors within cities by treating them as a canvas to create publicly active environments that enhances the character, commerce, and function of its urban setting. This approach of urban design and street transformation utilizes site specific characteristics to inform spatial and architectural typologies.
这个项目把目光放到了在了士巴丹拿大道(Spadina Avenue),作为实施这一方法的选址,这是多伦多市中心的一条交通要道,贯穿唐人街的两端。唐人街的特色如今被一条街道展现得淋漓尽致,街道被设计成固定的街市或集市,并将重点放在休闲、购物和饮食上。佛塔和流动餐厅里容纳了各式各样的场所;而其间穿插着街头艺术、公园/停车场,而正中央则是被现实存在的有轨电车线路给拦腰切开,线路在视觉上被描绘成一条龙,以庆祝当地的文化。
The project looks at implementing this approach to Spadina Avenue, a vehicle artery downtown Toronto cutting through Chinatown on both sides. Characteristics of Chinatown now spill into a street that has been designed as a permanent ‘Street Market’ or Bazaar, putting a focus on leisure, shopping, and eating. Pagodas, and mobile canteens house a variety of venues; spaces in between include street art, parks/parkettes, and cutting down the middle is the existing streetcar line visually depicted as a dragon in celebration of the local culture.
通过改变街道功能的优先次序,将会创造出富有吸引力和充满活力的都市干线,从而为都市及其居民提供更好的空间。
By shifting the priority of how streets function, there is an opportunity to create enhanced and vibrant urban arteries that consequently provide better spaces for the city and its inhabitants.

The Lofty Seedways are a requiem to the Streets of Yesterday and Today; a requiem to streets held in shackles by automobiles and Car-centric Urban Forms. They mark our “‘Next Move” to a Life-centric future: to enable Living and Seed, Cultivate and Enhance Life!
播种之道项目被设计成一种曾被隔离的都市现况上的交汇。建筑被抬高到空中,以保护地面上敏感的生态系统,超越人与自然之间的隔阂。建筑继承了多式联运系统,沿路建有单轨铁路、自动扶梯和自行车道。
The Seedways were designed to be a confluence of once-segregated Urban Realities. They are held aloft to conserve the sensitive ecosystems on the ground and Transcend the disparity between Man and Nature. They become scions of Multi-modal Transit; with integrated Monorails, Travellators and Biking Lanes along its length.
播种之道项目精进了环保网络,并将其纵横交错在城市的可持续系统当中。巨大的集水帆布翼板将来的丰富水分导入水循环系统当下,而太阳能屋顶板和动能地板将提供清洁能源。单轨运输系统将为沿轨的农产单位提供补给,例如一些垂直农场和海藻农场。播种之道项目本身能融入周遭的环境,并能为了适应各种公共活动而变化。因此,项目最终将成为都市中核心的可持续公共领域;播下整体城市生活的种子:生态敏感,富饶并值得庆贺!
The Seedways enhance the Blue-Green networks that they traverse and weave into the sustainable systems of the city. Massive moisture-capturing sails harvest copious amounts of water feeding into the Water Cycle, while solar-roof panels and kinetic floors produce Clean Energy. The monorail system provides logistics for the Agro-Productive units along its length, such as Vertical Farms and Algal Farms. The Seedways themselves amalgamate into the context, morphing to accommodate various public activities in the immediate vicinity. Thus they ultimately become the main continuous Public Realm of the city; sowing the seeds of holistic Urban Life: Eco-Sensitive, Productive and Celebratory!

REHOPE—Walk to Redeem Your Hope

无家可归的人往往被我们所忽视,但他们却是在街道上呆的时间最长的人。许多流浪街头的人都是被社会所抛弃的人,所以REHOPE项目希望能通过为他们提供创造自我价值的机会来援助他们。REHOPE项目鼓励市民使用积分兑换的方式去步行,而积分则可用于兑换奖品。我们在街上铺设了发电地砖,而其所产生的电力将运用于我们的展厅。REHOPE项目能提供个人工作空间、智能职业指导、拓展坞和其他零门槛的空间以作兑换,营造出一个自我维系的系统。
The homeless are people who are often overlooked but stay on the streets the longest. Many of those who roam the streets are social outcasts, so REHOPE helps by providing them the opportunity to create their own value. REHOPE encourages city dwellers to walk by using point redemption method, points may be used to redeem for rewards. The electricity generated by the power-generating floor tiles on the streets will be used to power our pavilion. REHOPE can provide redemption for personal workspaces, smart career coaching, docking stations and other zero-threshold spaces, creating a self-sustaining system.
REHOPE项目可分为固定部分和附加部分,固定部分由公共厕所和兑换机器所组成,附加部分则是可供兑换的单元空间。单元空间可以通过滑轨机构和智能隔板进行组合或拆卸,以满足不同的空间需求。展厅采用智能隔板朝外的透明屏幕作为外立面,外立面也可以用于广告或招聘信息,隔板朝内的立面则是带有可调节高度的桌子和内置键盘的触摸屏面板。
REHOPE can be divided into a fixed part, which consists of public toilets and a redemption machine, and an additional part, where unit spaces that can be redeemed. The unit spaces can be combined or disassembled through a sliding mechanism and smart partitions to meet different spatial needs. The pavilion uses transparent screen on the exterior of the smart partition as façade, which also can be used externally for advertising or recruitment information, and internally as a touch screen panel with a height adjustable table and a built-in keyboard.

气候变化是改造我们未来的核心。研究数据指出,阿姆斯特丹或纽约市等主要的沿海城市的海拔,最快将在2050年将至海平面以下。而通过这个反乌托邦的建立,我们设计了一个能避免气候变化影响的未来,由此人类得以在覆没的世界里存活。在这个未来,城市逐渐克服不断上升的海平面,并将一座徒步的乌托邦给建架在旧世界建筑的断壁残垣之上。
Climate change is the main force that is shaping our future. Studies calculate that major coastal cities like Amsterdam or New York City will fall below sea level by as early as 2050. Using this dystopian foundation, we designed a future where climate change could not be stopped, and humanity adapted to a sunken world. In this future, cities gradually adapted to rising sea levels, using the old architecture as a foundation for a new pedestrian utopia.
新的街道景观通过垂直分布来分离功能。最底层是一个宽阔的公共空间,当水位上升时,它就起到像海绵一样的作用。最低的水平是一个宽阔的公共空间,当水位上升时,它起着海绵的作用。往上一层是娱乐交流的空间。上面是用来交流的娱乐空间。再往上一层为了避免洪水而建得足够的高,这里能容纳商业功能,并作为主要的连接通道。在这个山谷的顶部是生活区和工作区。当下雨时,水位的波动会降低公共空间,但不会影响城市的功能。在这个河谷一般的建筑顶部便是生活区和工作区。当下雨时,水位的涨动会淹没了较低的公共空间,但不会影响整座都市的功能。
The new streetscape is organized vertically to separate functions. The lowest level is a wide public space that acts as a sponge when water levels rise. Above that are recreational spaces for communication. The next levels are built high enough to be avoid flooding and houses commercial functions and serve as main connecting paths. On top of this valley sit the living and working areas. The fluctuating water levels flood lower public spaces when it rains but does not impact the city’s functions.
我们的构思中,社区能实现了自给自足的能源循环,而这主要依靠水电站和太阳能发电。庭院的功能是作为是整个社区共同照料的农业平台。而必要的淡水通过倾斜的屋顶来收集,并平均分配给居民。
Our imagined neighborhoods create self-sufficient energy cycles powered by hydropower plants and solar power. Courtyards function as agricultural platforms cared for by the whole community. The necessary fresh water is collected on tilted roofs and distributed equally among the residents.

在不久的将来,随着自动驾驶、互联、电动和共享汽车的普及,大部分被传统车辆占据的城市街道将回归人类和自然,为城市再生带来机会。减少街道宽度,同时增加人行道,创造一个包容的街道环境,在城市地区靠近建筑立面的地方有宽敞的步行空间。
With the spread of autonomous, connected, electric, and shared vehicles in the near future, urban streets mostly occupied by conventional vehicles will be returned to people and nature, bringing opportunities for urban regeneration. The width of street will be reduced while sidewalk increased accordingly, creating an inclusive street environment with generous walking space adjacent to building frontages in urban area.

Urban intersections, in particular, will be transformed into a roundabout which is advantageous for autonomous vehicle operation, thereby reducing traffic accident rates, carbon dioxide emissions, and intersection maintenance costs. As a result, the number of circular traffic islands in the center of the intersection will inevitably increase. The circular traffic island, which was used only for limited purposes in the past to simply install sculptures, has a high possibility of being used in various ways in the future.

Due to the population growth, the Beijing government had been evacuating the locals in the old town since 2010s. In 2050, however, there are still some dwelling of unclear property rights on the edge of the historic reserve area. The dwellers are mixed up with the low incomes, the immigrants and the old man who is highly attached to the old communities, who have extended their shelters into the sky and into the street. As time goes by, some funky space, like “handshake buildings” and “sky bridge” has emerged, meanwhile, a mobility system in this community is taking shape.

In order to ease the contradiction between the spontaneous construction and the urban plan system, the government has come up with a strategy that a public travel route could be run in the formed mobility railway, which could not only meet the demands of sightseeing but also recall the historical memories of Beijing. Those historical vehicles are Chrono Carriage within which visitors could visually travel back to some royal events or festivals by augmented reality devices. Ultimately, the operation and management work as well as the revenues would be shared by the locals and government commissioner.

In the other words, our cities turn into traffic graveyards. Also, street life relies on people, and using streets as a transportation system means destroying urban life.

Our concept focuses on three subjects: Quality of life, sustainability, and mobility. We believe that streets can be merged into everything, even our home! There are not just direct routes for transportation, but these routes are like airlines in all dimensions. A solar portal is designed for future cities, one portable version and one stationary version which all are connected to the control eye center. People can easily use these portals to transport; Outside the home, workplace, or even on the roof, and no fuels are required! But perhaps, we would rather be walking; several control knobs are designed to turn the streets: I will be close to the club on Sunday and my workplace tomorrow! Now everything is more satisfying!

Our vision of the street develops in a scenario of the consequences of destructive actions that completely changed the face of the city. Some parts of buildings and structures block the transit of transport and it’s still unsafe to move around in an open, unprotected area. Therefore, the usual street, with all the infrastructure, has moved to the line passing through the buildings. The street dives into the basement, passes through the ground floor, soars up to the first floor, leaving aside all dangerous areas; descends again, going through the underpass and rapidly continues to lay a safe route, uniting buildings and people. In a city where nothing seems safe anymore, the most important part remains – people, who are able to build a new city, saving ruins and memory of the past.

You can find them in the “Terminal of Data” which is a place where data are transferred to certain destinations, “Fueling boxes” which are in charge of providing the energy for the mobility system, and the “Tower of Control” which conducts all the city’s processes, etc.

In order to use the capacity of the streets, their infrastructure can be prepared in such a way that they change in extraordinary modes without wasting time and then return to the standard mode. Inflatable Street is a flexible street where riding is limited to certain hours of the around the clock and the street is only accessible for pedestrians. And then after a while the mobility returns to standard, the flexibility of inflatable streets relies on inflatable furniture and inflatable systems, so that people can easily open the floor manhole. People inflate furniture to pedal for more cooperation, and automatic systems can be used to inflate furniture when time is of the essence or large inflatable furniture.

Panama is an urban chaos: a city with nonexistent pedestrian and ecological connectivity, and with a high demand for public spaces. Its rivers act as memories of the dynamic landscape that existed before urbanisation, yet remain secluded and depreciated. The majority have been canalised and degraded to networks of waste disposal. In an urban fabric that has been developed for cars and that has hostile conditions for living systems, the strategic transformation of existing urban systems is necessary.

The Matasnillo serves as an opportunistic terrain to improve life quality. The river is crossed by the main roads of the city; yet communities that face it have erected walls that separate them from it. This project proposes prototypical interventions along the Matasnillo to create a type of street that brings long term ecological and social value.

The proposal creates new soil by working with sediment, controlling erosion, recollecting garbage and alleviating flooding. Modular platforms, floodable terrains, and lookouts are some of the interventions that emerge. By reimagining the river’s use, these create recreational spaces and enhance pedestrian and cycling mobility. With the reappropriation of this urban void we challenge the definition of a river and reestablish its value.

Solar-driven multipurpose vehicles are used as kiosks and co-working spaces to help create circular economies in the built environment keeping the community at its fore. This reality resolves towards a long-term impact through small scale interventions, creating streets that are resilient to climate change and act as an adaptive system for creating an engaged and interactive neighbourhood.

We are the city, but what we see outside is not our identity, the fire, smoke and dust is not our memory, we have a glamorous memory of the past, that is who we are. That is what represents us. We come from glory and we ascend towards it. The current disaster is just a purifying trial of our identity.

Nebulous domes are embedded in a new continuous walking surface made from plastic waste erasing all boundaries from the street. Nebulous domes are flat when dormant for public transportation, people, and bikes to circulate above. When awakened platforms emerged creating sitting areas. Within the platform a contour structure is erected by an upward force and strands creating a seductive, free, and alive urban space. Landscape domes and swells between the nebulous domes provide a new ecology for animals, pollinators, and people to coexist and create a biodiversity corridor. Living Capriccio is activated by the community and constantly changing. The aspect of always changing while been permanent to the site creates an event, an action in the present. It’s s dialect between permanent and transitory, mobile, and ephemeral.

This is best represented as large paved right-of-ways that are dedicated to vehicular traffic flow, with crowded, narrow sidewalks as residual spaces left for pedestrians.

The old medieval waterways return to life and bring water and food, and also offers new hubs and soft mobilities. You bump into a couple of friends fishing for their diner and they ask you to join them. You see, from their boat, old roads transformed into proximity space for organic farming. Your neighboor says “Ni hao !” while offering you a splice of watermelon.

We imagine the street of tomorrow as a public space that opens a stage for the whole society and an important melting pot of people of diverse age, sex, ethnicity and political conviction. May they no longer just mainly be roads for traffic, but rather a space for a strongly increased mobility of opinions and arguments. Roundabouts, currently hotspots for traffic, could therefore transform into local councils,creating places for everybody to interact with each other and bring the culture of discussion back into public space. Thus, people get out of their personal bubble and conflicts take place in a more personal, human setting again.

WWWW.aquanet aims to solve these issues by utilising water bodies to increase urban mobility over water through revitalization of rivers and creating a network of channels throughout the continent’s water bodies. These channels allow transportation on three levels.

More water pathways will reduce surface vehicle reliance, thus, traffic, and increase surface walkability.

While they are today the symbol of grey infrastructures, they might become crucial green infrastructures for the future.

These were the words to an old Bollywood song and also the simple elements that made up the childhood experiences of our parents when neighbourhoods were tight knit communities, streets were almost a communal lounge and a cherished past time was setting off paper boats down streaming rainwater. To design a street for play, we began with a conceptual maquette, a bottle filled with memories of paper-boats, playing marbles, twinkling lights put up during festivities. Overtime, pristine roads and homogenous cookie cutter neighbourhoods have stolen important experiences of play and everyday life from the children of today.

Our section is a stitch of different street apertures that attempt to activate the street as a place for kinetic activity for pedestrians rather than vehicles. Channelling water from the rivers beyond, these Lungateveres or boulevards include hyper-real manifestations: water-slides carrying paperboats, hydro-powered rickshaws, air filter towers made of recycled mushroom and scaffolding structures that become hanging gardens to grow food, mazes for play and multilevel garden stairs. Slow-mobility is prioritised, street hawkers and octogenarians alike float on hover-boards.

“Boa-levard” – our street of tomorrow – addresses the tension between static physicality and new dynamic mobilities in a fun way. Inspired by the “fidget snake” toy, our street can transform into different shapes to suit various times-of-day and use cases.

The street’s surfaces are fitted with e-ink panels which radically alters the sizes of vehicular lanes, curbs, and play spaces depending on the time of the day. Inspired by Gestalt principles, we use colour and shape, not physical barriers, to change how people use the space. Each configuration accords the street a distinct vibe that suits the time and event, fundamentally rethinking the relationship between infrastructure and social life.

400 years later, Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) preserves some traces of its past civilization. In the landscape of the city there’s presence of historical, cultural and social heritage, permeated by complex systems of logistics and urban infrastructure.

The city has always had mobility and logistics issues, and new forms of mobility have solved most of them. There is a continuous flow of people and goods on different levels, underground, above ground, connections between and over buildings, in the sky, at sea and in multimodal travels.
建筑物既高效又自给自足。旧街道变成了广场,当其不再被汽车使用的时候,反而连接着城市空间。通过缆车来连接城市的上层和下层,以此来解决历史上遗留的社会差异。
Buildings are efficient and self-sufficient. The old streets became squares that create connections between urban spaces, they’re no longer used by cars. The use of cable cars helped to solve historical social differences, connecting the upper and lower cities.

Today, one of the most important issues in the cities in global north and south is traffic and the fact that modern forms of mobility takes a lot of space. The space which can be used to have a more socially and economically sustainable environment as it can be used to provide more open and dialectic space for citizens and more green space for the environment. In our vision the city of tomorrow is a place where unnecessary trafficking is omitted and the space between open and confined or privet and public space serves the citizens not the vehicles. We reduced unnecessary traffic in 3 ways.
1. 移动都市:一些空间在城市中不断移动,为全体市民提供服务。这样,每个人无论居住在哪里,都能得到同样的服务。
1. The moving city: where some spaces are constantly moving in the city and providing service for all the citizens. this way everyone is provided with the same service no matter where they live.
2. 车辆变成额外空间:在这个都市里,私人车辆不仅是一种移动的手段,他们自身也可以变成一个空间,例如,他们可以是一个私人剧院或是私人咖啡馆。
2. Vehicles as an extra space: in this city personals vehicles are not only means of mobility but they can also transform in to a space themselves for example they can be a sit in the theater or a personal space in a café.
3. 数字化存在:在新冠流行期间,我们发现有些活动不需要我们实际在场,我们可以虚拟操作很多事情。
3. Digital presence: during the pandemic we found out that some activates doesn’t need our actual presence and we can operate many things virtually.

In the urban era of today, new relations between living forms and their environment must be evolved to deal with current ecological and social issues, considering the massive problems caused by the climate crisis. Future cities will need to recognize the systematic need for ecological and social change at a territorial scale. More than that, they will have to translate these systematic challenges into cities’ spaces by incorporating the territory’s metabolism in the spaces between buildings, the interstitial spaces, and contextualizing them with the engagement of their inhabitants.

Observing the shift in our everyday relationships with work and rest since the beginning of the pandemic, it became apparent that we desperately need new, inclusive solutions for how people can best inhabit cities moving forward. What if a successful day of living could mean one during which individuals are fully engaged via all their senses in a healthy, balanced rhythm of work, productivity, rest, play, exercise, solitude, and social interaction? What if the success and future hope of a city was noted by its ability to deliver this level of living to all its citizens?

It’s crucial to note the impact the pandemic has had on all aspects of our health, including the decline in human contact and touch-related stimuli and the heightened difficulties many people with physical limitations face. Keeping this in mind we seek to emphasize other sensations (taste, smell, audio and visual) within the individual’s experience of the city as it relates to their spheres of movement and the duration of their day. To achieve this type of holistic citizen engagement, we propose a series of sensory experiences integrated into London’s existing context while remaining a destination in and of itself.

Common Senses formulates it’s entities and elements around the belief that the sensory experience should be flexible, responsive, and intentional in increasing the well-being and enjoyment of living for all users, regardless of demographic, economic status, or physical and mental ability.

P.T. Usha Road, in the heart of Cochin City, is the stage for our narrative. Our proposal ‘Olam’, attempts to re-imagine the street (currently a mere vehicular thoroughfare), as a people friendly destination - a mobility hub for people to connect, for art, sport and tolerance to thrive, and the city to sustain itself.

Activities of engagement, which are assigned physical locations, change according to the time of the day. E.g. Activity areas are segregated by varying surface treatments, slopes, and levels. Incorporated within these are disabled and aged friendly ramps and braille trails. Bicycle tracks and tree shaded walkways encourage cycling and walking.

Streets should be a place that supports public life. In Indonesia, cars dominate streets, but it is necessary to prioritize humans as the main users of a street. However, this change cannot occur directly. Instead, there should be an adjustment to change the perspective of the street and shift the people’s behavior in the streets in a sustainable manner. The solution for this is a shared street where cars and pedestrians can move around together in one street by narrowing the road for cars and providing extensive pedestrian paths. In addition, to limit the movement of cars or other motorized vehicles, zigzag roads are made so that the vehicles can have a low speed and it is not dangerous for people.

To re-energize this unique place for the sake of society in long-run, our project provides a system that encourages collective creation of urban spaces with a central initiative responsible for collecting and sharing information, assistance, and materials.

The movable platforms on the top allow designers to create public facilities with the residents, and they travel around the district for gaining more public engagement. For the transportation, the tram is free in charge to encourage the general to the project.

Climate change is an avoidable reality that mankind is already facing. The sea level is expected to increase exponentially, meaning that - without human intervention - many inhabited areas will be submerged in the next 50 years.Any strategy to preserve those lands drying them out constantly, would cost an incredible amount of time, money and technology.
于是乎我们提出一个颠覆性的方案,重新去思考气候变化给人类带来转变的可能:一种新的移动出行方式,完全囊括了被洪水淹没的土地,并将现有的河流网络重塑为新的基础设施。
Our project proposes an overturning strategy, rethinking at the climate change as an opportunity for human change: a new way of mobility that fully embraces the scenario of the flooded lands reshaping the existing river’s network into a new infrastructure.

Indeed, rivers come across most of the inhabited lands alongside the embankments that are to contain their flow. In a step-by-step process, those could become the streets of tomorrow.

The former embankment will become a system to build throughout the years, following the uncertain nature of this change by stopping or fast forwarding to its complete realization.

The streets will grow into mixed-used paths or galleries, submerged or emerged, depending by the case or the stage of the process. The space is no longer vehicle’s exclusive, but it is a blue-green corridor and hub where social life happen and new productive activities develop.

The relationship between the university and the city is not innate, it is constantly shaped with the development of the times over a hundred years. The site is located at the intersection of the University of Chicago and Woodlawn neighborohoods, one of Chicago's poorest neighborhoods. The University of Chicago needs to expand and the community needs various infrastructure updates and social resources. In this regard, can the traditional street space redefine itself as a mediator to stitch the community and campus for better symbiosis?

A public island will be implemented in the middle of the street, which is an inclusive public realm anchor that is accessible to all. A north - south street island with a width of 60 feet and multi-modal slow mobility system composed of edge benches, landscaping , rain gardens, seating, and bike racks. A series of east-west walkways layered on the street island connect the first-floor commercial spaces of the apartments on the front streets and proposed Archipelago Square that can stimulate activities and investment within the community.

Briefly, the Spine Street is taken as an anchor point to create mutualism between the Gown and Town, activating the long-term development of the co-living neighborhood.

Sense of identity is enhanced by giving several options in activities, stimulate social encounters through design and provide variation in ways of moving. In the street of tomorrow we want people to have control over their health, make them feel included and make the city liveable by making it climate proof.

When thinking of streets, surface level throughways and public spaces come to mind. On the other hand, in urban areas, tunnels or underpasses could also be describes as streets. However, these are often gloomy, dirty and therefore scary spaces for many.
未来的移动出行应该是零碳的、简单的、低成本的以及有趣的,亦即骑行。不过,只有少数的人全年都在骑自行车。很多都市里经常会发现没有自行车道。新的快速通道需要更多空间,而这只有通过改造我们现在以汽车为主的都市才得以实现。
Future mobility should be CO2-free, simple, cheap and fun, which is cycling. However, only a few people cycle all year round. Frequently, there are no bike lanes. New fast lanes need space, which is only possible through conversions of our car-centered cities.

Its side walls are greened as Living Wall, so new livable spaces will be created.

Bright surface colors prevent unpleasant heating in summer and, together with the greening, avoid the impression of a scary space. The integrated irrigation system for subterranean bike lanes (ISSUB) collects rainwater at surface level, cools and cleans the walls.

Issues surrounding sustainability also become something to consider, which Playful Whorl(d) try to achieve by creating modular compartments for this public space with materials such as Wood Plastic Composite (recycled plastic and wood). Having modular parts means that the space is malleable to new forms without changing sites, it also means that the facility itself is the one to be transported rather than the user, reducing pollution that could be caused. For efficiency, the modules are transported using a high-speed low pressure tube underground that also serves as a very efficient public transport system.
六边形的模块化部件既高效又稳定,这种形式在自然界中也能看到,比如如蜂巢和雪花,这种造型象征着和谐和平衡。
The hexagonal shape for the modules is chosen for its efficient and stable form, also seen in nature such as beehives and snowflakes, which symbolises harmony and balance.

Playful Whorl(d) is an adaptable facility that reinvents mobility for its users, with accessibility for pedestrians, small vehicles, and water-based transport.

明天的街道正在自行重置。由于已经没有汽车了,移动的平台占据了街道的主要部分。平台的中央用于运输人员和货物,而在平台的两侧,形成了不同的户外场景,如市场、咖啡馆、操场、以及为表演和展览准备的场所。
Street of Tomorrow is regulating itself. As there are no cars anymore moving platforms had occupied main part of the street. In the middle part they are used for the transportation of people and goods while on the sides they are forming different outdoor scenarios such as markets, caffees, playgrounds, providing place for the performances and exhibitions.
人们不必再离家远行,在这里社会之间的联系变得更加牢固。此外,关心街道和房屋的状况也变得更有意义。周遭的环境每天都在季节性地变化,你永远不知道你会在明天的街道上看到什么。
There is no need to go far away from your home anymore and connections between society of the area become stronger. Also, it makes more sense to care about condition of street and houses. The surroundings are changing daily and seasonally and you never know what you will see on the Street of Tomorrow.

Sydney’s Circular Quay is often referred to as the ‘gateway to Sydney’. Historically, it was an important hub for shipping and, over time, has acted as a focal point for many horse-drawn and electric tram services that weaved throughout Sydney. Today, Circular Quay has evolved to become a major hub for all modes of transport.
悉尼的环形码头火车站孵化着对未来街道和交通枢纽的探索与设计。但这里的基础设施和火车站邻近的街道,阿尔弗雷德街和卡希尔高速公路的沿街便利设施很差,而且不连贯。层级项目设想以环形码头作为交通枢纽的未来。
Sydney’s Circular Quay Railway Station provides the catalyst for an exploration into the future of street design and transport hubs. The existing infrastructure and amenity of the railway station’s adjoining streets, Alfred Street, and the Cahill Expressway is poor and disjointed. LEVELS envisages the future of Circular Quay as a hub for transport.

It proposes Alfred Street be multi-level to provide access to different modes of transport and the Cahill Expressway. These levels provide access to nearby buildings as well as provide commercial opportunities. To facilitate efficient movement of people between levels, circular lifts operate in a similar fashion to Ferris Wheels, providing access to these levels.

The streets regain a space that was once lost and gives it back to pedestrians. We want to prioritize the use of public transport and slow mobility, for this reason, we create a new infrastructure that consists in a network of rails.

This allows the implementation of tramways around the city, as well as promoting new mobilities based in the movement on rails.
