竞赛介绍


2020年,我们开始了有关未来问题竞赛的第二阶段

基于我们的传统,我们发起了9+2——11个关键主题来进行研究。与其说是一个项目,不如说是一个由各种竞赛平行进行并从不同的角度来探索的研究生态系统。

我们的探索之旅将继续第六个主题:ENERGY(能源)。


本次竞赛要求参赛者为日本退役的福岛大井(Fukunshima Dani)核电站提出创意方案。我们的目标是赋予这个现有的、未被充分利用的核电站新的用途,并重新设想它成为一个对社区有积极影响的美丽建筑。方案可以是展馆、建筑、景观设计、城市设计、战略愿景或者其他创意形式的空间设计。


SUMMARY


In 2020 we started the second phase of competitions to address the issues of tomorrow.

In line with our style, we propose 9+2 themes – eleven critical topics to work on. Rather than a program, a research ecosystem composed of various competitions running in parallel and exploring the same theme from different perspectives.

Our exploration journey will continue with theme six: ENERGY.


Participants of this competition are asked to come up with creative proposals for the decommissioned Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant in Japan. The goal is to give a new purpose and reimagine this existing and underutilized nuclear power plant into a beautiful piece of architecture that positively impacts the community. Proposals can be pavilions, buildings, landscape design, urban plans, strategic visions or any other creative form of spatial design.

福岛灾难凸显了现代社会面临的主要问题:我们的能源系统不再符合生命系统的再生能力,也不再符合陆生力量在不造成生态灾难的情况下部署自己能源的能力。


The Fukushima catastrophe has brought to the fore the main issue facing modern societies: our energy systems are no longer in line with both the living systems’ capacities to regenerate and to let terrestrial forces deploy their own energy without causing ecological disasters.


再生性能源或化石能源只会增加熵与损伤,也就是说,地球生物宜居条件会消失,因为它们部署大量能源的速度太快。针对这种“色情能量”,"Fukushima Mon amour"试图为新的能量关系奠定基础,重新质疑家庭生活、护理伦理和生产中使用的系统的来源和性质,以及它们在现实中的锚定的领土。


Renewable or fossil energies only reinforce entropy and trauma, that is, the disappearance of the conditions of biological habitability of the Earth, because they deploy large quantities of energy too quickly. Addressing this “porn energy”, Fukushima Mon amour is an attempt to lay the basis for new energy relationships that question anew the sources and the nature of the systems used in domestic life, care ethics and production, as well as their anchoring in the realities of the territory.

The project intends to rediscover Fudosei, the traditional Japanese way of life which gives more importance to living environments than to individual actions. Thus, the entities considered – earth, sun, wind and water (rivers, oceans) – make it possible to produce the resources transformed by machines without electricity through a paleo-energetic architectural approach. These new alliances aim to repair the territory (depermeabilization), at the same time as they are used for production (salt, wood, silk) and domestic life (daily tasks).

With the repopulation of the area, Nucleus, the modular city, expands and shifts spontaneously depending on the needs of the inhabitants. Designed to face frequent and unpredictable threats such as earthquakes and tsunamis along the shoreline, it is built above ground with strong columns, providing security from flooding while protecting the environment and biodiversity of the area. After recovering from the tragic disaster, Nucleus lures nature back to its own habitat while maintaining minimal contact with the ground.

It is a self-sufficient city with its own rainwater harvesting system, solar glass windows, and greenhouses, which also benefit from the daily movements of the community. Public spaces are paved with piezoelectric tiles that transform kinetic movement into energy. The energy collected during the day from basic activities such as going to work, school gatherings, running, and other community activities serves to create energy that is used in communal areas.

Piezoelectric tiles are even used between houses. Combined with an elastic polymer membrane placed between two tiles, the system serves as a pre-cushion during an earthquake while harvesting the seismic energy. When buildings start to shake, energy transforms from the structure to PZT tiles, generating energy that is later used for housing needs. The cushion membrane between tiles prevents metal-to-metal contact by elastically softening any impact and, as a result, also structure-to-structure impact.

Design can offer great solutions, but also has limitations. We are proposing a fictional story that extends beyond the boundary of the physical environment but includes political reconceptualization of how nuclear power plants work. The start of our narrative is from the establishment of the “International Nuclear Power Nation” in Fukushima which operates 439 nuclear power plants globally.


INPN 的目标是通过形成发电厂网络将废物重新分配给需要它们的发电厂,确保所有核电厂以最小的风险和最大的回收率达到其最长运行寿命。


The goal of INPN is the ensure that all nuclear power plants reach their maximum operational lifespan with minimum risk and maximum rate of recycling by forming a power plant network to redistribute the waste to power plants that need them.

 Once the site is declared as the property of INPN, people will be evacuated immediately (what is not okay is not okay), unless people acknowledge the consequences of living in radioactively contaminated soil.

The rest of the sites are redeveloped into nuclear fusion power plants for cleaner and increased efficiency.

Japan is facing aging population problems along the years. Due to the high population density in urban areas, the retired are struggling to find a place for them to enjoy their retirement as the hiking of property prices caused by insufficient of land.


该建筑的主要目的是为日本的退休或老年人提供一个区域,创造一个放松的避风港,从城市地区逃离到自然环境中。这座建筑的目的是实现绿色能源生产和可持续性。该建筑采用模块化设计,带有伸缩性阁楼,为老年人提供更灵活的设施。


The main objective of this building is to provide an area of retirement or the aged people of Japan, creating a relaxing haven and escape from urban areas into a natural environment. The purpose of this building is to achieve green energy production and sustainability.  The building is a modular design with retractable loft to provide a more flexible facilities for the elderly.


包括生物质能、太阳能、雨水和风能收集在内的能源类型为整个建筑发电。不同尺寸的管道负责将整个模块连接在一起,以及运输货物、物资、人员以及产生的电力。


Types of energy including biomass, solar power, rain and wind harvesting are included to generate power for the entire building. Tubes of different sizes are responsible for linking the whole module together as well as transporting goods, supplies, people as well as power generated.


植物和蔬菜沿着建筑物很好的种植,以帮助建筑物实现自我维持的条件,因为人们可以在建筑物中种植自己的食物。它还为空气提供阴凉和微风,营造凉爽的环境。


Plants and vegetables are well planted along the building to help the building achieve a self-sustainable condition as people can grow their own food in the building. It also provides shade and breeze into the air creating a cooler environment.

The true revitalization of Fukushima is not about creating fancy buildings or large-scale architecture, but about the recovery of Fukushima and its surrounding areas. It is impossible for people to simply return because of the presence of huge and fancy buildings on the Fukushima nuclear power plant site.


我们的第一个想法是创造一个逐渐吸引人们回来的环境,而不是一个一下子就神奇地改变的城市。为了实现这一目标,我们建议在福岛核电站建立一个新的生态中心,并将六角形的自然环延伸到周围地区。我们的灵感来自于树叶的形状,这是大自然的一个基本方面,我们确定六边形的形状具有最有效的表面积接触,使其成为最适合这片土地的形状。


Our first idea is to create an environment that gradually attracts people back, rather than a city that magically transforms all at once. To achieve this, we propose creating a new eco hub at the Fukushima nuclear power plant and extending a natural ring in a hexagonal shape to the surrounding areas. We were inspired by the shape of leaves, which are a fundamental aspect of nature, and we determined that the hexagonal shape has the most efficient surface area contact, making it the most suitable shape for this land.

Is there such a positive "virus" that, after inoculation in a contaminated area (negative virus), could restore the local character, returning a given part of the area to the city?


virus vs virus 项目假设创建一个具有实验室部分功能的建筑物。也生产出植被来,它们将逐渐滋养和清洁福岛地区。建筑的第二个功能是具有纪念功能的博物馆。


The virus vs virus project assumes the creation of a building with the function of a laboratory part. Vegetation is also produced, which would gradually feed and clean the Fukushima area. The second function of the building is a museum with the function of commemorating.


日本的kintsugi哲学教导人们修复坏掉的东西,而不是把它们扔掉。根据这一原则,该建筑被置于悲剧的中心,位于前发电厂的建筑物之间。爆炸的物体的布局将作为景观设计保持不变。


The Japanese philosophy of kintsugi teaches repair broken items instead of throwing them away. According to this principle, the building was placed in the centre of the tragedy, between the buildings of the former power plant. The very layout of the objects that exploded would remain unchanged as a landscape design.

The project begins by utilizing microalgae, which are formed countlessly from the point where cold and warm currents meet.

In order for the people of Fukushima to live, large-scale infrastructure is required. Starting with the existing nuclear reactor building, microalgae are cultivated. Afterwards, microalgae are continuously cultivated through pipes and energy facilities that cover the entire city, and at the same time inevitably form the energy needed for the city. The reactor generates energy as before, but it is not threatening or harmful to the inhabitants. A visual and flexible infrastructure that penetrates deep into the city will be the beginning and ultimate vision of Fukushima's revival.

Fukushima disaster had major impact on the agriculture and tourism of Okuma. Since both of those things are very important for the lives of its people, our goal was to adress those points and reuse the remaining parts of the buildings for the purpose of breathing a new life to the region.

After the disaster there has been a lot of scientific research on how the damaged land can be saved and used for growing crops. Since the question of food is very important for the future of humanity, we have decided that the two longer buildings should be used as a seedbank and an institute for scientists who specialize in agricultural research. Blob-like shapes of the institute / seedbank were inspired by the organic shapes of the plant world and the way they grow.


屋顶上有许多吸引更多游客(和金钱)到这里的东西:从餐馆和商店到受传统温泉启发的洗浴设施。种子库的形状由钢和玻璃制成,从而最大限度地吸收了太阳的能量。那里产生的多余能量用于加热温泉水。反应堆被重新用于酒店/住宅单元。


On top of the roof there are many things that attract more tourists (and money) to the region: from restaurants and shops to bathing facilities inspired by the traditional onsen. Seedbank‘s shapes are made of steel and glass thus maximizing energy absorbed from the sun. Excess energy produced there is used to heat water for onsens. Reactors are reused for hotel / residential units.

Our proposal is based on the idea of generating a self-sufficient and isolated space, taking advantage of the use of three types of energy generated both on the old nuclear power plant and the sea. These are hydraulic, tidal and nuclear power energy.


一个由不同结构的塔楼形成的空间将延伸到整个福岛的旧核电站。最大的位于项目的中心,将作为中央能源,拥有10个埋地核反应堆,满足现代人类对电力的巨大需求,是化石燃料的绝佳替代品。海岸附近的塔将充当水力发电厂,滴下数吨海水,并移动发电的线圈。


A space formed by different structural towers will extend throughout Fukushima´s old nuclear power plant. The largest, which is in the center of the project, will serve as a central energy source with 10 buried nuclear reactors, which satisfy the great demand for electricity of the modern human beings and are a great alternative to fossil fuels. The towers nearby the coast will act as hydroelectric power plants, dropping tons of sea water, and moving the coils that generate electricity.

At the same time, the flow of water will modify the shape of the towers, creating organic environments very different from modern hydraulic power plants. The small towers will serve as human residences, but in a special way, since they have a variety of heights, trying to imitate the feeling of living in a tree. The wrought iron plates will be stratified on an almost furniture scale, to turn the small residence into a continuous and striking space to live. The entire master plan of structural towers will be covered by a resin roof, that acts as a first isolation barrier.

Finally, colonizing the roof of the entire master plan, the placement of an organic sea sponge is proposed, extending from its source in the sea, until its infiltration in each tower. A Study on the future of Japanese Resilient Cities

Leaving behind the 2011 natural disaster, a new city rises from the ashes, designed to withstand future tsunamis strikes.

The city evolves to a new studies and production HUB, where those interested in creating new green energy production technologies can come to develop their research. Four of the previous reactors are recycled to provide the city with food from its vertical crops, drone delivered locally and abroad.

A greenbelt surrounds the city, allowing its animal and human population to live in harmony, giving back a tiny territory which was previously taken from the native flora and fauna. The ribbon, a circuit across the green belt that connects a series of activities and infrastructure, both for humans and animals, constitutes a very important function, by walking, running, skating or riding a bicycle on it, kinetic energy is harvested by the community to power up the city.

After the nuclear pollution disaster, cities, nature and human beings have been affected to varying degrees. This is shocking news. When we see the ruins, whether we can start to examine the relationship between man and nature will be a question we always attach importance to.


我们尝试将景观系统和工业用地静态化,放入一个叫做生态盒子的装置中。我们为生态箱赋予了透明的外观设计,方便观察自然和工业遗产的发展。


We try to make the landscape system and industrial sites static and put them into a device called ecological box. We have given the ecological box a transparent appearance design to facilitate the observation of the development of natural and industrial heritage.


这将是一段很长的时间,也会在潜移默化中影响人们对自然的看法。值得注意的是,我们特意采用了结构主义的设计手法,让设计出现在现场,若无其事,既不被忽视,又不被周围环境所消解。


This will be a long period of time, and will also influence people's view of nature imperceptibly. It is worth noting that we have specially used the structuralist design method, in order to make the design appear in the site if there is nothing, not to be ignored, but also not to be dissolved by the surrounding environment.


我们相信这样的设计可以让人在人、自然和城市三个不同的尺度上进行更多的思考。


We believe that this design can make people think more on the three different scales of human, nature and city.

Unlike today, when Fukushima's polluted water is spreading along the Pacific Ocean to the world, the Pacific Ocean of the future becomes the largest renewable energy power plant on Earth. In order to integrate and use renewable energy with different power systems, it is necessary to convert it into hydrogen energy, but it can be used as a key currency between renewable energy networks.


福岛位于欧亚大陆和太平洋的交界处,是沿太平洋洋流循环并生产可再生能源的Pacific Leaf的港口,也是氢能经济中心。


Fukushima, located on the border between Eurasia and the Pacific Ocean, serves as a port for Pacific Leaf, which circulates along the Pacific Ocean current and produces renewable energy, and as a hydrogen economic hub.

12 years have passed since the Fukushima disaster, and although the site has undergone the process of decontamination, it is evident that the community population has not recovered since its evacuation due to the aftermath of the tsunami in 2011.

The museum displays the pros and cons of various energy resources to educate the public, while the anaerobic digester serves to provide an alternative energy source, by utilizing the organic wastes produced by the museum visitors, and in return provides electricity that supports the operation of other structures. Meanwhile, the tsunami tower stands to protect the people in case a tsunami occurs in the future.


吸取福岛灾难的教训,Prevailing Certainty 旨在邀请游客参观退役的能源基础设施附近,同时提出实施风险较低的可再生能源生产的智能电网。


With the lessons learned from the Fukushima disaster, Prevailing Certainty is designed to invite visitors to the neighborhood of the decommissioned energy infrastructure, while proposing a smart grid with the implementation of a less risky renewable energy production.

 Rather than restoring the nuclear power plant, which has a slim chance of being revived, the plan is to develop it into a research center for nuclear fusion and renewable energy for future generations.

The unexplored depths of the Japan Trench will be surveyed to discover future resources and energy sources, and underwater hotels and floating islands will be installed to allow for exploration of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant from the land.

Deep within the ruins of the Fukushima nuclear power plant, a new city is emerging. Inspired by the post-cyberpunk aesthetic, this city is an infinitely developing structure, shrouded in mystery. Its towering buildings and futuristic designs reflect the resilience of humanity in the face of disaster. But as the city expands, whispers of something sinister beneath its sleek exterior continue to grow.


这座城市的胶囊公寓是为中等收入居民设计的,提供了一种乌托邦式的公共生活方式,周围环绕着绿色和公共区域。它的单轨铁路系统提供了穿行于错综复杂的建筑之间的交通,但一些人认为这也是对其公民行动的监视。


The city's capsule apartments, designed for middle-income residents, offer a utopian lifestyle of communal living, surrounded by green and public areas. Its monorail system provides transportation through the maze of buildings, but some think it is also a surveillance of its citizens' movements.

The infrastructure’s power generators, windmills, hydro turbines provide renewable energy to the city and neighbouring areas. But there are murmurs of something hidden that threatens to bring the city to its knees.

Our important insight was that Fukushima is currently in an impossible recovery. The recovery of Fukushima from the devastating earthquake and nuclear disaster has proven to be a challenging task, with complete removal of radioactivity and nuclear power plant leaks taking at least 60 years. Currently, there are two pressing issues that need to be addressed - the abandoned nuclear materials and the space left unattended in the nuclear power plants.


为了解决这些问题,我们提出了一个单元模块形式的新方向,可以被任何核电站使用,而不仅仅是福岛。该模块从被忽视的核材料的热能中产生能量,并充当系统的核心,直到城市恢复。待所有的热能散去后,核物质就可以重建成一座城市。


To tackle these issues, we propose a new direction in the form of a unit module that can be utilized by any nuclear power plant, not just limited to Fukushima. The module generates energy from the thermal energy of the neglected nuclear material and acts as the heart of the system until the city recovers. After all the heat energy has been dissipated, the nuclear material can be rebuilt into a city.

This is why our proposal is a modern university specializing in solar, wind, water and nuclear fusion energy. With this research the university will attract futuristic companies that are eager to turn its concepts into prototypes. Over time, Fukushima will create a reputation enabling it to revive the surrounding region with its futuristic ideals. By attracting companies, which in turn create jobs,Fukushima University will become the heart of a self-sufficient Metropolis fueled by scientific revelations.


一所专注于清洁能源的大学将从福岛的历史中吸取教训,并成为明天清洁工的先驱。如果福岛迫使所有人离开,为什么不让它成为人们返回的理由呢?


A clean energy focused university would learn from the history of Fukushima and become the forerunner of a cleaner tomorrow. If Fukushima forced everyone away, why not make it the reason for people to return?

The Monument of Time reflects our responsibilty towards the future generations through our actions. It reminds us of the risk of nuclear disasters and its effects on nature and nature’s vulnerability.

The design of the monument bases on an origami-like folding which lays over the topography and consists of different sized triangles. The triangulared structure opens in some places, so that flora and fauna can settle. At the positions of the six reactors an interior space is formed under the folding before it merges into the ocean. Over thousands of years, the monument will become one with the nature. Some triangles will remain visible as fragments.


长达一公里的略微倾斜的坡道通向纪念碑的中心。两米厚混凝土板将受污染的地面与表面隔离开来。时间的纪念碑指的是日本的“单一性意识”(mono no aware)概念,即对短暂的事物敏感可感知和有形污染的持续时间及其对人类和自然的影响。


Up to one kilometres long, slightly sloped ramps lead to the center of the monument. Two meter thick concrete panels shield the contaminated ground from the surface. The Monument of Time refers to the Japanese concept of mono no aware – a sensitivity to ephemera – and intends to make the duration of contamination perceptible and tangible and its impact on mankind and nature.

我们想设计一个总体规划,向人们展示福岛有自然的生活,你可以来这里住。我们为他们规划了一个包含各种旅游元素的校园,为居住在这里的人们创造一个经济独立的背景。然后我们制定了一个反映它们的总体规划,还规划了两座像塔一样作为地标的主要建筑。


We wanted to design a master plan that shows people that there are natural livings in Fukushima and you can come and stay here. For them, we planed a campus with various tourism elements to create a background of economic independence for people who live here. Then we made a master plan reflecting them and also plans about two major buildings which function as landmarks like a tower.


在其中一栋建筑的细节上,我们借鉴了“巴别塔”的想法,所以我们可以讲述一个关于人类贪婪和忽视的故事,类似于福岛事故。这意味着我们必须记住以前的事故,并尽量不要重蹈覆辙。同样关于建筑物的内部,有一个由现有能源厂形成的空隙空间。在另一栋建筑中,我们在废墟上方形成了带有幕墙的“玻璃容器”,这样我们就可以在污染最严重的中心实施一个新的可行的生态系统。


In details about a one of the buildings, we borrowed an idea from ’Babel Tower’, so we can tell a story about humans greeds and overlook, similar to Fukushima accident. It implies that we have to remember prior accidents and try not to repeat them. Also about interior of the building, there is a void space which shaped from existing energy plant. In the other builiding , we formed ’Terrarium’ with curtain wall above the ruins, so we can implement a new viable eco-system in the most polluted centers.

 As mentioned above, we tried to express contrasting keywords such as ’natural and as artificial/ ruins and new buildings/ history and future’. To realize them in space, ’natures inside the buildings’, ’the existing buildings partially preserved’, ’forests and memorial spaces’ were planned together.
