On 2nd December, the Chinese Initiative on International Law (CIIL) hosted a lecture entitled “Several Questions in the Ongoing Armed Conflicts” at Leiden Law School’s Campus in the Hague, given by Judge Liu Daqun, judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Judge Liu shared his extensive experiences in the field of international criminal justice, focusing on current topics of concern in armed conflicts and engaging in a discussion on recent developments in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Established by the United Nations, the ICTY was mandated to prosecute individuals responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. Headquartered in the Hague, the Netherlands, the Tribunal has played a significant role in upholding international human rights and justice. Judge Liu, as a Chinese national, served as an eminent figure in this important international court.
