2024年10月17日,中科院一区Top期刊《International Journal of Biological Macromolecules》(IF2023=7.7)发布了一则专题征稿,专题为:Bioactive polysaccharides for food nutrition and human health


专刊简介

  • Bioactive polysaccharides from various natural resources have been attracted intensive attention. Generally, they are biomacromolecules consisting of more than 10 or even thousands of monosaccharide units jointed by glycosidic linkages. Natural polysaccharides possess multiple health benefits, such as antioxidant, anti-diabetic, anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer effects. Increasing knowledge of chemical structures of food bioactive polysaccharides, their metabolism in humans and animals, and regulatory mechanisms of biological function to affect human health status, including various aspects of molecular nutrition such as nutritional biochemistry, nutrigenomics and metabolomics, has been continuous revealed. Based on these encouraging observations, a lot of efforts have been focused on discovering natural bioactive polysaccharides for the development of functional foods and nutraceuticals.The complexity and diversity of the structure of bioactive polysaccharides have led to the fact that their mechanisms of action and targets are often unclear, limiting their application in health foods, and in-depth studies on their mechanisms of action and bioactivity are needed. An in-depth understanding of these aspects is necessary for primary structure, molecular characteristics, and bioactivities demonstrated by in vitro and in vivo studies to comprehend their bioactive mechanisms and efficacy of bioactive polysaccharides from plants, fungi, animals and other food sources.

  • It is evident that information regarding the biological roles of food polysaccharide has vastly expanded in the recent decades. But there is still a substantial gap in our knowledge regarding their nutritional relevance and human health aspects. Therefore, an in-depth understanding of the biological roles of polysaccharide in food, in addition to their underlying mechanisms is urgent and meaningful. Actually, it is time for the diverse functional roles of bioactive polysaccharide to be fully incorporated into the mainstream of biological sciences. Therefore, a special issue focusing on these topics will greatly enhance the state of knowledge in the field of bioactive polysaccharides. Potential topics around three major themes of polysaccharides, i.e. functional structure, metabolism characteristics and bioactive mechanisms, include but not limited to:


  • 1. The metabolism characteristics and bioavailability of bioactive polysaccharides

  • 2. Understanding the mechanisms of polysaccharides on health and diseases

  • 3. Chemical and biological modifications in relation to functional properties

  • 4. New environmentally technology for effectively extraction of bioactive polysaccharides

  • 5. Novel structural analytical technologies for bioactive polysaccharides

  • 6. Structure and activity relationships of polysaccharides
