Cross-Border E-Commerce Cargo Volume Exceeds 14,000 Tons

Recently, at the international cargo station of Haikou Meilan International Airport, a batch of e-commerce goods is ready to be shipped from Haikou to the United Kingdom. After the on-site staff complete the item information verification and inspection of the boxes, the goods are loaded onto the plane and sent abroad.

In recent years, Meilan Airport has actively introduced air logistics enterprises, continuously improved its route network, innovated the development model of air logistics, and enhanced the quality of airport operation and service, ensuring fast and stable customs clearance of cross-border e-commerce goods. According to statistics, this year, Meilan Airport's cross-border e-commerce business has cumulatively transported 10.99 million orders, with a total weight of 14,056 tons, representing an increase of approximately 54 times and 57 times, respectively, compared to last year.

Creating a Convenient and Efficient Customs Environment

This March, the "Haikou⇌Abu Dhabi" route successfully cleared customs at the international cargo station of Meilan Airport with a batch of cross-border e-commerce "9610" direct purchase imported parcels. This was the first batch of "9610" imported goods accepted by Meilan Airport Customs, marking the official launch of such business at Hainan port.

In May, a batch of goods from Hong Kong arrived smoothly at Meilan Airport. Unlike previous shipments, this batch of goods was cleared through customs under the "airport on-site direct pickup" service model under the supervision of Meilan Airport Customs. This means that after the goods landed, domestic logistics distribution operations were carried out on the apron's open side, and the goods were immediately loaded onto vehicles and transported to various destinations from the apron. This became the first "airport on-site direct pickup" import cargo in Hainan Free Trade Port.

In July, the international mail export business at Meilan Airport was officially launched and has been operating normally. Previously, international mail sent from Hainan to overseas had to be rerouted to exchange offices in cities like Guangzhou and Shanghai before being sent to their final destinations. Now, it can be directly handled through the Haikou International Mail Exchange Office, which not only greatly improves the customs clearance efficiency and delivery timeliness but also signifies that Meilan Airport has become the first aviation port in Hainan Free Trade Port to transport export international mail.

First batch, first order, first in the industry... The frequent appearance of the word "first" indicates Meilan Airport's efforts and innovation in air logistics. "This year, Meilan Airport has seized the development opportunities of cross-border e-commerce, benchmarked against excellent domestic ports, actively introduced new types of port supervision models, continuously improved supervision efficiency and service levels, and comprehensively created a convenient and efficient customs environment, providing a more convenient channel and broader platform for international logistics transportation," said Tao Ming, Deputy Manager of the International Services Center of the Cargo Department at Haikou Meilan International Airport.

Expanding the International Air Cargo Route Network

In recent years, with the introduction of a series of aviation logistics subsidy policies, such as the "Incentive Measures for the Development of Air Cargo in Hainan Province," Meilan Airport has fully leveraged its policy and geographical advantages. By strengthening communication and cooperation with domestic and international air transport companies and charter operators, and actively expanding the international air cargo route network, it has attracted a large number of merchants to choose Meilan Airport for cross-border e-commerce mailing services.

According to statistics, this year Meilan Airport has operated a total of six international cargo routes, including Tbilisi-Haikou-Milan, Haikou-Paris-Bournemouth, Haikou-Vienna-Bournemouth, Haikou⇌Bournemouth, Incheon⇌Haikou⇌Singapore, and Haikou⇌Paris. Among them, there are four fifth-freedom cargo routes, with destinations covering cities in seven countries and regions, constructing an international cargo route network radiating from Haikou to Europe, West Asia, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia. This has further enhanced the competitiveness and influence of Meilan Airport's international logistics services.

While densifying the international cargo route network, Meilan Airport has also been continuously improving the quality of transportation services and actively optimizing  infrastructure and equipment, as well as service operation processes. For example, Meilan Airport uses the belly capacity of domestic and international flights to launch the "Cross-Border E-Commerce + Apron Direct Transfer" service. This service transports the majority of export goods, which were originally transported by land, to Meilan Airport's international cargo station via air-to-air transit, and then directly transfers them to the Cross-Border E-Commerce International Express Center. This effectively reduces the transit time for cross-border e-commerce goods and the time for agency enterprises to load and unload vehicles for the second time.

Next, on the basis of continuously improving the domestic and international air cargo route network, Meilan Airport will make multiple efforts in aspects such as enhancing logistics service capabilities, creating featured products, and concentrating industrial projects, to become a competitive regional air logistics hub.
