经常有家长问我:小朋友什么时候开始英语写作的学习为好?

这个问题,其实暗含了这样一种预设,那就是小朋友要学一段时间英语,主要是英语口语,然后再开始学英语写作,这样比较好。问“什么时候开始为好”,问的是英语学习开始后多久再学习写作为好。

我的答案是:从英语学习的第一天,就可以开始英语写作的学习了。

为什么不能呢?学生们又不是刚刚出生,他们已经有了一定的生活经验、学习体验,只要掌握了一点语言技能,就要用上。这和小学二年级开始学习看图写话、三年级开始写作文的语文学习毕竟还是不一样的!

事实上,英美国家实际的教学操作,更类似于我的观点:他们从小朋友学习拼写开始,就在进行写作的不断渗透了。在曾经介绍过的Writing A-Z、Write Source等教材中,也都有从GK开始写作文的教学安排。

考虑到这一点,今天我来把一套优秀的英语写作教材,一套从低幼儿童开始的写作教材,推荐给大家,并结合这套教材,谈谈我对英语写作学习与教学的一二看法。

Spectrum Writing 是一套在北美地区非常受欢迎的英文写作教材,适合 K-8 年级的学生在有经验的老师指导下循序渐进的学习写作。

根据我的观察与测算,国内小朋友跟英美小朋友的英语水平年级差大概是4-6年。我们取一个平均数,相差5年,GK设置为5岁,则5+5=10,也即,这套教材的GK等级,适合国内10岁--小学四年级的孩子学习。来看一看内页:


我们看到,这些都是最基础的写作要素,尤其是对于词的功能界定,能够帮助小朋友从一开始就明确哪些词可以怎么用,对于上手写作非常有用。

G1(相当于我们国内小学五年级)开始接触句子结构:


G2(相当于我们小学六年级、上海的中预年级)开始接触行为动词时态,并利用这些时态对应恰当的场景和事件:


G3(相当于国内初一年级)继续时态的运用,并加入了四种不同的句子类型的进一步学习:


G4(相当于国内初二年级上下)开始对于动词、名词、形容词的精细化提出要求(vivid verbs、precise nouns):


G5(相当于国内初三年级)开始向整个篇章的主旨大意和文章结构进军:


G6(相当于国内初三、高一年级)一开头就谈了段落的结构:


G7(相当于国内高二年级)开始关注大意与细节:


G8:相当于国内高二、高三年级,探讨的是总体框架与具体细节之间的呼应与搭配关系,这就是整篇文章层面的要求了:
