Special issue
Reimagining Multiliteracies in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence
Three decades after the New London Group (1996) published the manifesto for multiliteracies in the Harvard Educational Review, the ways we communicate and learn have changed significantly. We seek to reflect on the elements of change and continuity required in the multiliteracies manifesto. We are interested in examining the ways which the tenets of multiliteracies offer a theoretical foundation and productive framework for explorations with Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and new literacy practices in the contemporary communication environment. This special issue invites scholars working across diverse educational levels and social contexts to contribute towards this collection. Collectively, we seek to advance the multiliteracies agenda, which grows increasingly more pertinent and crucial, in this age of generative AI.
We invite submissions that address any of the following topics or other topics of relevance:
Expressions and redefinitions of multiliteracies in the national or school curricula
Multiliteracies pedagogies with Generative AI across educational levels and social contexts
Assessments of students’ multiliteracies with Generative AI
Designs of learning systems with Generative AI for multiliteracies
Affordances and limitations of generative AI for multiliteracies learning
Teachers and students’ perceptions and practices of multiliteracies and Generative AI
New literacies involving Generative AI across disciplines
Ethical and equity issues in the use of Generative AI and multiliteracies
Submission
We call for paper proposals, between 500 to 1000 words, that address the topic of student digital multimodal composing with the use of Generative AI technologies. We welcome papers from diverse theoretical orientations and the use of innovative methodologies to examine the issues and discuss the educational implications.
The quality of the submission will be the main determinant for offering invitations to submit a manuscript. To submit your proposal, please email to pedagogies@nie.edu.sg with the subject line: Pedagogies: SI [Reimagining Multiliteracies in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence] by December 1, 2024.
