Don't Miss:
John Legend
American superstar, 12-time Grammy Award winner, John Legend returns to Shanghai for a solo show six years after his last show in Shanghai.
The
long-awaited Shanghai Greenhouse in the Shanghai Expo Culture Parkofficially opened on a gloomy, rainy day, September 20. Covering an area
of about 22,000 square meters, with a total underground floor space of
40,000 square meters, the greenhouse was once the site of the old
Shanggang Third Steel Factory. After renovations, it now takes on a
cloud-like form.
The greenhouse features four main sections. Besides the visitor center, there are three themed pavilions -- Sand Mirage, Clouds Forest, and Clouds Canyons. Each one showcases different types of tropical plants: Sand Mirage highlights drought-tolerant plants like olive trees, baobabs, and giant cacti; Clouds Forest is home to tropical rainforest plants like bodhi trees, underwater forests, and staghorn ferns; and Clouds Canyons focuses on tropical flowers, featuring plants like traveler's palms, talipot palms, and flame trees.
The whole experience felt magical, with so many different plants on display at once. You can see a variety of species, fish coexisting with underwater plants in the aquatic sections and artificial waterfalls. There's also a winding walkway suspended in the air, offering a bird's-eye view of the entire pavilion. Some areas inside felt a bit warm, but plenty of vents blew cool air throughout.
Thanks
to the typhoon and rain, the place wasn't crowded, which made the visit
more enjoyable. Like most spots in Shanghai, it's always better with
fewer people, so if you're planning to visit, a rainy day or a weekday
is your best bet.
