Don't Miss:
John Legend

American superstar, 12-time Grammy Award winner, John Legend returns to Shanghai for a solo show six years after his last show in Shanghai.

Not Eating Anymore At ..

Few mentionable closures:

Well, we didn't see this one coming:  The Commune Social has suddenly closed its doors after 11 solid years of service, going from "impossible to get a table" to... well, not enough people wanting one. Ouch. This place was a beauty before restaurants started chasing Xiaohongshu clout, and it consistently delivered good food, even after Jason Atherton moved on. Shanghai needs more spots like Commune Social, not fewer.

We kind of saw this one coming: Bonica and its whole crew -- La Barra, La Mezcaleria, El Paisa -- have officially closed up shop. Word on the street is they're relocating somewhere new. But honestly, did anyone think the location was the problem? Feels like there’s more to the story here...

Mona

1/F, Fotografiska Full Listing

Selected by SmSh Contributor Leon

The rejuvenation of the Suzhou Creek promenade has seen it become a much-hyped destination for photographers with the opening of Fotografiska Shanghai late last year. An impressive four-story contemporary art museum showcasing visual art, photography and culture, Fotografiska is also a lifestyle hub with its own gelateria, café / bar, and rooftop lounge.

Its latest venture is MONA, a Mediterranean fusion bistro located on the ground floor of Fotografiska, which offers a culinary experience that perfectly compliments an afternoon of viewing exhibitions. As an extension of the Fotografiska brand, MONA celebrates food and drink, and the intersection of art and gastronomy.

Bottega (Jing'an)

457 Shaanxi Bei Lu - Full Listing

Selected by SmSh Contributor Sally

Bottega opened their second location just a block north of Plaza 66, in a new urban renewal complex on Shaanxi Bei Lu. They are the first to move in here, with more restaurants and artsy spaces to come. If you remember where Sumerian and The Rooster used to be, yeah, it's around there.

We like that this Bottega is nicely tucked inside a historical venue (apparently one of Sir Robert Ho Tung Bosman's residences) so it feels a lot less commercial than the other one.

Mesa Alegre

268 Ruining Lu - Full Listing

Selected by SmSh Contributor Toni Ventury

Mesa Alegre, the latest venture from the team behind Dugout Coffee & Brunch on Fuzhou Lu, serves up sleek, modern vibes with a Mediterranean bistro flair. The space strikes a balance between contemporary cool and warm, organic touches—think inviting but with style points to spare.

The menu at Mesa Alegre offers a unique mix of Spanish and Asian flavors. Highlights include ....
