A Huangpu River cruise is high on the list for anyone visiting Shanghai, but if the typical mass-market tourist boats aren't your vibe, here's a unique alternative. Available through SmartTicket, you can now rent a luxury yacht to cruise the Huangpu River with up to 10 friends.
Obviously, it's not cheap. You've got two options: the 54-foot Taishan Yacht at 3,800 rmb per hour, or the super luxury 68-foot Boating Yacht at 5,800 rmb per hour. But you can bring up to 10 people, your own drinks, your own food, your own music (or even a DJ), and the boat is all yours for an hour.
It's perfect for special occasions -- birthday parties, farewells, or just showing off to your visiting parents that you've made it in Shanghai.
The typical route starts at the Coal Harbour Yacht Club in Pudong, heads north past the Pearl Tower skyline, then loops back close to the Bund, with thousands of tourists watching you cruise by. It's quite an experience.
Book around 5pm to catch the sunset, then enjoy the city's lit-up skyline on the way back.
