A couple's stay at the Navi L Executive Apartment Hotel in Shenzhen turned traumatic when two strangers reportedly unlocked and entered their room uninvited.

The guest, identified as Mr. Mo, recounted that he and his girlfriend checked into the hotel around midnight on November 17. After being told their originally booked king-size room was unavailable, they agreed to stay in a twin-bed room instead. Just 30 minutes after settling in, two unknown men entered their room using a hotel key card.

"We were in the middle of an intimate moment when the door suddenly opened. Both of us were terrified and fell off the bed in shock," said Mr. Mo. Though the intruders promptly left, the psychological impact lingered. "We’ve had sleepless nights since, and the thought of someone barging in during intimate moments may haunt us forever."

Mr. Mo immediately contacted the hotel staff, but the front desk claimed the manager was unavailable due to living far away. He called the police, prompting a hotel staff member, allegedly the night manager, to arrive. Following police mediation, the hotel offered a refund and compensation of three nights’ stay, totaling 1,236 RMB. Mr. Mo refused, stating, “That’s just standard procedure. I want a sincere apology and compensation for mental distress, but the hotel insisted we resolve this legally.”

Adding to the controversy, Mr. Mo posted a negative review online, criticizing the hotel for poor hygiene, unprofessional staff attitudes, and potential fire safety hazards. The hotel has not responded publicly to his review.

The incident has drawn widespread attention on social media, where netizens expressed outrage over the hotel’s handling of the situation. "A hotel’s primary responsibility is ensuring guest safety. How could such a mistake happen?" one user commented. Another wrote, "Compensation is the bare minimum. They need to investigate how this breach occurred." Some users called for stricter regulations on hotel security and training.
