A married teacher in China was suspended from her job after her private WeChat messages with a teenage student were accidentally displayed on the classroom’s big screen, revealing their inappropriate relationship. The incident, which occurred at a vocational school in Qinyuan County, Shanxi Province, has sparked widespread outrage and discussions about morality and professional ethics in education.
The teacher, named Zhang Haixiao, is married with a daughter. On the day of the incident, she had been using a computer connected to the classroom projector but failed to log out of her WeChat account. Her chat history with a male student, aged between 15 and 18, was accidentally projected in front of the class, exposing their intimate exchanges.
In the leaked messages, the student addressed Zhang affectionately as "Honey" and asked why she was upset. Zhang explained she was frustrated after her husband and daughter refused to wash her feet when she asked them to. "I told him, ‘The child treats me the way you treat me.’ I am so sad! What kind of man have I married?" she lamented.
The student responded by reassuring her, expressing jealousy over her asking her husband for anything. "Even though you are married, I don’t want to hear that you let him do anything for you," he wrote. He then declared his love, saying, "I will wash your feet next time when we live together. I will always love you."
The school quickly suspended Zhang following the incident and issued a statement on November 22, acknowledging the seriousness of the matter and confirming an ongoing investigation.
The duration of Zhang’s relationship with the student remains unclear, but the chat messages revealed a deep emotional connection. The revelation has triggered heated debates on Chinese social media platforms, with many questioning the teacher’s ethical conduct and the broader implications for society.
One netizen commented, "I wonder how the student’s parents feel after discovering their child is involved with a married teacher." Another remarked, "This reflects the declining moral standards of society."
