On November 25, an acrobat surnamed Zhang suffered a terrifying fall during a high-altitude performance in Yongcheng, Henan Province, when the rope supporting him snapped mid-air. A video of the incident shows Zhang attaching the rope to a crane before performing. While executing a rolling maneuver, the rope suddenly broke, causing him to plunge to the ground.

Zhang sustained multiple injuries but, fortunately, his condition is no longer life-threatening. His brother confirmed on November 27 that Zhang is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Zhengzhou and remains stable. The organizers of the performance have covered Zhang’s medical expenses.

Tragically, this accident comes just months after Zhang's wife died in a similar incident. In April 2023, she fell to her death while performing a high-altitude act in Suzhou, Anhui Province. Following her passing, Zhang had publicly vowed on social media to never perform acrobatics again.

Zhang’s brother revealed that the latest performance was not planned but rather a last-minute invitation from a friend. Despite Zhang’s earlier promise to retire from acrobatics, he agreed to participate in this event, which ended in the harrowing accident.

The incident has reignited discussions about the safety of acrobatic performances, particularly those involving high-altitude acts. Many netizens expressed concern over the apparent lack of safety measures, with some questioning why Zhang was performing under such risky conditions so soon after his wife’s tragic accident.

“This is heartbreaking. He just lost his wife, and now this happens to him. Safety must be prioritized in these performances,” one commenter wrote. Another netizen remarked, “High-altitude acrobatics are dangerous by nature, but it seems like proper safety protocols are often overlooked. How many more lives need to be endangered before changes are made?”
