The Journey

Towards Parenthood

Welcoming a new life is a profound journey for any couple, filled with hope and challenges. At Jiahui International Hospital, our dedicated team supports families every step of the way.

Discover 7 times when our innovative, collaborative efforts transformed the lives of the families we serve in the face of complex medical situation.

01 Jiahui’s First IVF Baby

One-Stop Pregnancy and Childbirth Services: IVF, Obstetrics, and Pediatrics.

In January 2022, a foreign couple welcomed their first baby at Jiahui. This baby is also the first child born through assisted reproductive technology at the Jiahui Reproductive Medicine Center.

02 Baby Born at 26 Weeks + 3  Days Weighing Just 860g

Expert NICU Team Provides Specialised Care for Premature Babies

In May 2022, a baby born at just 26 weeks and 3 days due to the mother’s early rupture of membranes weighed only 860 grams—about the size of an adult's palm, with arms as thin as an adult's thumb. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Jiahui neonatal care team, the baby’s condition stabilized and is now growing up healthy.

03 Serious Condition: Placenta Previa and Bleeding Before Birth

Teamwork among Doctors Saves Lives

In April 2024, a 34-week pregnant woman was rushed to the hospital due to a serious condition called central placenta previa, which was causing bleeding before delivery. A team of specialists from different departments, including Obstetrics, Internal Medicine, and Anesthesiology, quickly met to discuss her emergency cesarean section.

After obtaining consent from her and her family, they performed a transfusion using her own blood. During the surgery, she lost a total of 1400 ml of blood, but 642 ml of her own blood was collected for transfusion. The surgery was successful, her vital signs remained stable, and she gave birth to a healthy baby girl weighing 2465 grams.

04 Mother of Twins Successfully Completes Natural Birth

Cesarean Section Isn’t The Only Option

In June 2024, a set of naturally conceived fraternal twins was born at Jiahui. After a successful vaginal trial of labor at 37 weeks, the sister, weighing 3,030 grams, was delivered just 8 minutes after full dilation. Ten minutes later, her brother arrived, weighing 3,235 grams. The mother experienced only a first-degree perineal tear, with a total blood loss of just 300 ml. This case demonstrates that having twins does not automatically require a cesarean section; with the support of an experienced obstetric team, mothers of twins can successfully choose vaginal delivery when conditions allow.

05 Pregnant Mother Overcoming Thyroid and Tongue Cancer

Collaborative Care for Pregnant Women with Serious Health Conditions

When a pregnant mother faced both pregnancy and a diagnosis of thyroid cancer, it was a challenging situation, to say the least. Under the care of obstetricians, she underwent successful thyroid tumor resection surgery at Jiahui, supported by a team of endocrinologists and obstetricians. In June 2024, she delivered a healthy baby boy at 39 weeks, with her thyroid condition stabilized.

In another case, a mother in her second trimester was diagnosed with tongue cancer. To address the complex situation of balancing her health with that of her unborn child, the teams from Stomatology, Obstetrics, and Anesthesiology collaborated effectively. They successfully performed the tumor resection while ensuring the stability of the fetus.

06 Delivering Triplets

Babies with Extremely Low Birth Weight

In July 2024, identical triplets were successfully discharged from Jiahui. The hospital's multidisciplinary team, including specialists in obstetrics, neonatology, and laboratory services, collaborated to care for these infants. Remarkably, none of the common complications associated with premature birth—such as infection, brain damage, or retinopathy—occurred, and no antibiotics were needed during their care.

07 Expectant mother with Rare Blood Type

Storing Your Own Blood in a Separate Blood Bank for Future Use

In September 2024, a pregnant mother with Rh-negative blood completed autologous blood storage at Jiahui. This process involves storing blood from the same individual for future use, which is crucial for Rh-negative mothers facing potential complications. Jiahui's independent blood bank and multidisciplinary team provide essential support, ensuring these mothers feel secure.

Stored autologous blood transfusions minimize complications associated with allogeneic transfusions, where blood is sourced from others. For pregnant women confirmed to be RhD negative, using autologous blood is the safest and most reliable transfusion option.

Shifting Needs in Maternal Healthcare

With the implementation of the two-child and three-child birth policies, and the influence of various social factors, the number of elderly and high-risk pregnancies and childbirths in China has increased significantly, which has also posed new challenges to hospitals in terms of maternal safety and pregnancy management.

Comprehensive Pregnancy Care

In order to make pregnant and childbearing families feel at ease and comfortable, Jiahui’s OB/GYN department has officially launched a new system where a single attending doctor is responsible for your entire pregnancy journey. This means the same doctor will oversee all aspects, including preconception planning, prenatal check-ups, delivery, and postnatal care.

Additionally, Jiahui's neonatal clinic and 24-hour emergency services offer a range of support for new and expectant families. Services include infant feeding consultations, sleep advice, jaundice management, clinics for premature infants, genetic metabolic screening, and genetic diagnosis.

Finally, Jiahui International Hospital currently has more than 35 departments, and its comprehensive medical services can provide pregnant mothers with a spectrum of professional services in addition to prenatal examinations and delivery.
