2024 Malaysia-China Youth Innovation Competition Concludes at XMUM
The final competition and award ceremony of the 2024 Malaysia-China Youth Innovation Competition concluded successfully at Xiamen University Malaysia Campus on 29 June 2024, bringing together young innovators from Malaysia and China to present and compete with their innovative ideas and projects.
Supervised by Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, China and Xiamen University, China, the competition received sponsorship from The South Sea Capital Sdn. Bdn. and Shanghai Guan’an Information Technology Co. Ltd. It was initiated by the Promotion Association for Global Youth Innovation Leaders Community (PILC), hosted by Xiamen University Malaysia, and co-hosted by TusStar Malaysia and Koperasi Graduan Muda Kebangsaan Berhad (KoGRAD).
This year's competition saw participation from over 380 individuals, representing more than 50 projects from 20 universities across Malaysia, This robust participation underscored the depth of innovation and creativity nurtured by these institutions.
Following a rigorous selection process, finalists presented their projects and pitched their ideas to a panel of judges during the final round. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as participants engaged in lively exchanges, fielding probing questions from the judges.
In the end, sixteen teams were honored with awards: six first prizes, five second prizes, and five third prizes. These winning teams represented Xiamen University Malaysia, University Malaya, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Curtin University Malaysia, First City University College, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and National Defence University of Malaysia.
This competition also served as the Malaysia Division Contest of the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, enhancing global recognition and fostering collaboration among young innovators from Malaysia and beyond.
The competition's launching ceremony took place on April 25, attended by China's Education Minister Huai Jinpeng, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing, Malaysia's Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Deputy Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Dato' Yusof Apdal, and Malaysia-China Friendship Association President Dato' Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan.
