A mother in China is demanding compensation from a Hema Xiansheng supermarket after her 11-year-old son fell and sustained a concussion while running around the store. The incident, which took place on October 19 at the Meixi Qingxiu branch in Hunan province, has sparked a heated debate on social media over parental responsibility and store liability.

Video footage circulating online shows the boy sprinting through the aisles before tripping and briefly losing consciousness. The mother, whose identity has not been disclosed, claims the supermarket staff were negligent in not providing immediate assistance or calling an ambulance. However, staff members reported they had checked on the boy, who reassured them he was fine and left the store on his own.

Following the incident, the mother returned to the supermarket, damaging store property in frustration and reiterating her demands for compensation. On November 10, the case gained widespread attention on Chinese social media, quickly topping trending lists with over 200 million views.

In response, a representative from the store confirmed they are negotiating a settlement with the mother, though details on the amount remain undisclosed. They also revealed that a partial compensation offer was made, but the mother declined it.

Many netizens sided with the supermarket, criticizing the mother’s reaction and questioning her accountability. “I agree that staff should check on the boy, but it’s unreasonable to expect further assistance when he seemed okay,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “If the store pays compensation now, it sets a precedent for others to exploit.”
