The Columbia International History Workshop is the most well-attended history workshop at the University. In addition, the workshop regularly attracts graduate student and faculty participants from NYU, CUNY, Penn, Princeton, Yale, Cornell, and other NYC-area and regional institutions. It is known as a uniquely stimulating, productive, and high-profile venue among scholars around the New York area, the Northeast, and even further afield.
The workshop follows the standard discussion, lasting just over an hour. It has been the tradition to discuss work-in-progress in various formats, ranging from a chapter from a book manuscript to a journal article draft. Works usually range between 25 to 40 pages long, and we ask presenters for their work 10 days to a week in advance. The purpose is to allow workshop attendees enough time to read the work. Presenters can also indicate specific issues in their work that they would like to discuss in detail or receive feedback on from the attendees.

Although we prefer to conduct the workshop entirely in person, we can also accommodate hybrid sessions, wherein the guests attend in person whilst the speaker joins us virtually.
