此刻我们仍像刚入行的新手一样兴奋,我们还年轻,还爱着这件事。


世界正在飞速变化,音乐也并不例外:它的生产过程、载体以及传播路径早已面目全非。


我常常幻想一百年以后的音乐会是什么样子,吉他到底能弹到多快?音乐现场还需要喇叭吗?或者说根本不需要一个实体的音乐现场了,在家里戴上一个什么设备就可以参加一个身临其境体感更加真实酷炫的音乐节。还需要实体唱片吗?还需要黑胶唱机吗?我的答案是应该不需要了。这些东西终究都会成为老古董,陈列在云端博物馆里。


爵士乐也在变,老英雄轮流谢幕,新浪潮暗流涌动,接受变化顺应时代,还是打破常规逆流而上,音乐家们面临着前所未有的考验。


幸好我们还拥有世界上最棒的观众,你们正在以澎湃的激情史无前例地介入到这场文化变革中来。

From the small town of Divo in Ivory Coast, the path of the energetic bassist, drummer, and singer led her to the world’s biggest stages. None other than the bass legend Bootsy Collins paved the way for Manou Gallo to be named one of the “Top 10 World Best Bass Players”! Gallo is pure power on the bass, mixing jazz, funk, groove, and Afro beat. Once you’ve experienced her, you immediately recognize her uniqueness: In her hands, the bass sometimes becomes a percussion element, driving the groove to fascinating heights. It’s no wonder Bootsy Collins calls her the “African Queen of Bass”. Other giants like Manu Dibango, Mamady Keita, Wyclef Jean, Marcus Miller, and Lucas van Meerwijk have also taken notice of her and shared stages with her. Proud of her African roots, Gallo says she has the musical freedom to play anything. And it’s precisely this freedom that you’ll find on stage: an explosive mixture of funk, jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and confident Afro grooves. With her technique and her music, Manou Gallo impressively proves that she is one of the best bassists in the world.

William Hooker

William Hooker is a musician, composer and a poet recognized as “an iconoclast, and one of the most innovative musicians and drummers of his generation”. With over 70 recordings as a leader—encompassing jazz, new music, experimental music and multi-disciplinary forms of expression (including dance, silent film and spoken word), he has presented his work at Lincoln Center, Wadsworth Atheneum, Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Knitting Factory, and Roulette. He has also presented his work at Montreal Jazz Festival, Vilnius Jazz Festival, and the Victoriaville Music Festival and such. Musicians he has collaborated with include Billy Bang, William Parker, Thurston Moore, Roy Campbell, Elliot Sharp, David Murray and many more.


John King


John King 是一位多才多艺的作曲家、吉他与中提琴演奏家。作为一名极为高产的创作者,他不仅活跃于实验音乐领域,他还与众多舞蹈、视觉艺术、多媒体艺术、诗歌、戏剧等各领域的知名艺术家和团体、机构跨界合作。

John King is a versatile composer, guitarist and violist. As a highly prolific creator, he is active in the field of experimental music and collaborates across disciplines with renowned artists and groups in dance, visual arts, multimedia, poetry, and theater.

His string quartet works have been premiered at prominent avant-garde music venues and festivals in New York. He has also been commissioned to create music and perform improvisations by internationally acclaimed dance companies, including the Mannheim Ballet, Monte Carlo Ballet, and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Additionally, he has composed seven experimental operas, performed at major theater and music festivals worldwide, and has written songs and scores for five plays directed by Peter Kratz.



Maria Bertel


Maria Bertel 是一位丹麦长号手、即兴演奏家和作曲家。她从嗡鸣和噪音音乐中汲取灵感,经过扩音处理后的乐器原声与泛音、细微的动作、金属摩擦和呼吸声交织缠绕,在她的音乐中呈现出平时难以听到的细节与层次,仿佛一部不断堆叠和变化的有机体。

Maria Bertel is a Danish trombone player, improviser and composer. The acoustic sound of her instrument amplified creates an output that draws inspiration from drone and noise music. What is normally not hearable is presenting itself: movements, metal and breath become a swirling part of her compositions; changing organic patterns are emerging, and tiny sounds become brutally clear as well as the range of overtones of the instrument.

Apart from her work as a solo artist she performs and composes in groups like the

notorious four-piece noise rock band Selvhenter and the improvised noise duo with Nina Garcia. She is also one of five co-founders of the Copenhagen based art collective eget værelse founded in 2010. She has presented her music in various festivals like Supersonic Festival (UK), Gong Tomorrow (DK), Roskilde Festival (DK), B-Sides Festival (CH), and Meteo Festival (FR).


老丹 Lao Dan


老丹,实验/即兴音乐人,多乐器演奏者,以竹笛与萨克斯管为主要乐器。他的音乐融合了摇滚乐、实验音乐、噪音与中国传统民族音乐,作品富于即兴灵感与美学张力,常在东方和西方、古代与现代的激烈对撞之间为观众带来强压迫感的听觉体验。

在过去十年中,老丹活跃于国内与国际音乐场景中,曾赴美国、日本进行个人巡演,并与海内外诸多音乐家展开合作,受到听众与业界的极大肯定,在多个国家共发表二十余张独奏与合作专辑。 


Lao Dan is an experimental/improvisational musician and multi-instrumentalist, primarily playing dizi(Chinese bamboo flute) and saxophone. His music blends rock, experimental, noise, and traditional Chinese folk music, characterized by improvisational inspiration and aesthetic tension, offering audiences a powerful auditory experience through intense contrasts between East and West, ancient and modern.

Over the past decade, Lao Dan has been active in both China and international music scenes, touring the U.S. and Japan and collaborating with numerous musicians worldwide, earning significant acclaim from audiences and industry professionals. He has released over 20 solo and collaborative albums across various countries.



林荣一 1950 年 1 月生于东京,中学时开始在铜管乐队中演奏萨克斯。

他在高中时期曾即兴加入过山下洋辅三重奏在新宿 Pit Inn 的现场演出;若干年后偶然与山下重聚,他作为特邀成员与当时的山下洋辅三重奏进行了欧洲巡演,并发行了专辑 In Europe 1983。1990 年,他组建了自己的乐队 MAZURU,在德国纽伦堡爵士音乐节上演出并大获好评。此后,他与大西顺子、明田川荘之、高濑亚纪和森山威男等人合作,并开始出现在更多专辑中。他还广泛进行作曲和编曲,其中“Naadam”成为渋さ知らズ (涉不知)乐团的代表曲目。

Born in Tokyo in January 1950, Eiichi Hayashi began playing the saxophone in a brass band during his middle school years.

As a high school student, he spontaneously joined Yosuke Yamashita Trio for a performance at the Shinjuku Pit Inn, and years later he coincidentally reunited with Yamashita and joined the then Yosuke Yamashita Trio as a “plus one” member. Their European tour performances were released as the live album In Europe 1983.


In 1990, he formed his own band MAZURU. They performed at the Nuremberg Jazz Festival in Germany, receiving great acclaim. Subsequently, he collaborated with Junko Onishi, Soushi Akitagawa, Aki Takase, Takeo Moriyama etc. and began appearing on more albums. He also extensively composed and arranged music, among which "Naadam" has become a signature tune for Shibusashirazu Orchestra.

Currently, Hayashi's diverse musical persona can be heard in various projects, including the Tsuyoshi Shibuya Orchestra, the duo De Ga Show with Hiroaki Katayama, a duo with Fumio Itabashi, and Gatos Meeting, a band with young jazz musicians.

This performance will be Eiichi Hayashi’s debut in China.

Lisbon-based trumpet player Luis Vicente and one of the most active, versatile and creative drummers of the Barcelona scene, Vasco Trilla, joined forces with British legendary double bassist John Edwards, who has played with improvisation-music giants such as Evan Parker, John Butcher, Derek Bailey and Peter Brötzmann, after a series of concerts in Portugal that has gained enthusiastic feedback. They realized the good chemistry between each other and soon decided to establish the trio. Embracing the creative side of free jazz with the nuances of free improvisation, the trio navigates through myriads of sound tapestries making each concert a unique and full-of-energy performance.



Zoh Amba 是一位来自美国田纳西州的作曲家、萨克斯手和长笛手。她的音乐是前卫、噪音和赞美诗的奇妙融合体。全球知名的音乐博客 Stereogum 称她为“当今最耀眼的前卫爵士新星之一”。

Zoh Amba is a composer, saxophonist, and flutist from Tennessee. Her music blends avant-garde, noise, and devotional hymns. Before studying at the SFCM, NECMusic and studying with David Murray in New York, she spent most of her time writing and practicing saxophone in the forest near her home. Today, her powerfully unique avant-garde music is full of folk melodies, mesmerizing refrains, and repeated incantations. Amba released four records in 2022, including her debut record O, Sun, which was produced by John Zorn and released on the prestigious label Tzadik. She has collaborated with a variety of high profile musicians such as Jim White, William Parker, and Brian Chase. Amba has also performed at well respected venues and festivals.

This time, she joins forces with the rising star of contemporary jazz in New York and award-winning pianist Lex Korten, new-generation experimental/improvised bassist Caroline Morton, and experienced drummer Ryan Sawyer, who has collaborated with Boredoms and Thurston Moore and such, to present their Asian premiere at the OCT-LOFT Jazz Festival.

John Edwards, a British double bass player, began playing in the late 1980s and has collaborated with numerous improvisation-music giants. Since 1995, he has been one of the most active musicians on the London circuit, playing between 150 and 200 concerts a year. He is willing to share his insights on improvised music with us, as a Londoner.


“Free improvisation is the most challenging form of music-making.

At its best, the practitioners are hyper-aware every millisecond, hear every micro-sound that occurs and almost mind-read the other musicians present. It involves an animal-like state of being, where every sense works on an extreme level of intensity, where every vibration is felt, where the ear can indeed hear a pin-drop in the centre of a raging storm.

Empathy, sharing, supporting.

Nobody can judge the music to be right or wrong, good or bad. Only the improviser themself carries the responsibility of their own actions and reactions within the moment—this could be a burden but is truly a luxury.”

美国爵士作曲家、钢琴家 Thelonious Monk 无疑是爵士乐坛上一颗璀璨的明星。这位不拘一格的钢琴家为世人贡献了诸多爵士乐经典,是历史上录音最多的爵士音乐家之一。

Monk

Part one of a two-part portrait of the great jazz composer and pianist. In 1968, we had the opportunity to spend time with Thelonious Monk and his musicians, following him in New York and Atlanta. In New York his quartet plays at the Village Vanguard and at recording sessions for Columbia Records; in Atlanta they appear at a Jazz Festival organized by George Wein. The members of the quartet were Charlie Rouse, Larry Gales, and Ben Riley.

Monk in Europe

Part two of a two-part portrait of the great Jazz composer and pianist. On his European tour his quartet was joined by Ray Copeland, Clark Terry, Phil Woods, and Johnny Griffin. They traveled as part of George Wein’s Newport Jazz Festival road company to London, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Berlin, Mainz, and Rotterdam.
