Installation Views of Northern Lights, TRIUMPH GALLERY, China, 2024
Artists Lars Elling and Martin Golland's double solo exhibition Northern Lights, opened at TRIUMPH GALLERY on January 13, 2024, presenting more than 10 paintings created by the two artists in recent years.
Lars Elling was born in Norway in 1966, and attended Statens Høgskole for Kunsthåndverk og Design, Bergen, from 1988 to 1993. In his paintings, a dynamism arises between the figurative contents and abstract elements, existing within an alternation between clearly rendered and more blurred, indistinct areas of the painting. These scenes could be seen as an implosion of memories, a reproduction of a moment. Martin Golland was born in France in 1975, studied in Canada in the 1990s, received his BFA from Concordia University and his MFA from the University of Guelph. Neither landscapes nor abstractions proper, Martin Golland's works rely on making an imaginary space of recollection and dream, anticipation and loss, nostalgia and forgetfulness that welcomes the unknowable. The exhibition runs until February 29, 2024.
