Leifur James is a London-based experimental producer, composer and vocalist known for his esoteric avant-garde style. In 2018, his critically acclaimed debut album A Louder Silence was released on Night Time Stories, which was followed by a second album Angel In Disguise in June 2020. Leading up the release of Angel In Disguise, British electronic music magazine DJ Mag premiered the album’s fourth single Ritual describing the track as feeling ”indebted to Burial’s night bus-tailored garage, while wavering synth cries and cinematic pianos“. The masterful blend of James‘ harmonic vocals and Simon’s powerful visuals earned the duo widespread support from CLASH Magazine, Director‘s Notes, Motionographer, the London Short Film Festival and the UK and Berlin Music Video Awards.

今天推荐的专辑来自Beat Jazz International 厂牌著名的 Beat 系列。这个系列所有的专辑都以白墙，植物和挂件为背景，女人的半身肖像照为封面。即使没听过这个厂牌，也肯定会被这别具一格包装方式吸引，而想要去听听。这个德国的厂牌对自己的介绍是“Love For Beats. Love For Jazz. Love For Vinyl.” 简单明了。

Today‘s recommended album comes from the famous Beat series of the Beat Jazz International label. All of the albums in this series have a white wall, plants and wall hangings as the background and a portrait of a woman as the cover. Even if you haven’t heard of the label, you‘ll be attracted by the unique packaging and will want to give it a try. The German label describes itself as ”Love For Beats. Love For Jazz. Love For Vinyl.“ Simple and clear.

GRAY是画家Jean Michel-Basquiat 和表演艺术家Michael Holman发起的乐队，名字来自一本著名的解剖学书籍 Gray’s Anotom。也是他画作的灵感来源。GRAY成立的时期正值纽约No wave浪潮时期，无调性、噪音等非主流音乐风格被这些艺术家大量的采用，以作为对抗主流的声音。

今日推荐的是该专辑2019年的再版发行，来自DJ的掌上明珠、美国地下厂牌 Ubiquity 。不仅收录了原曲，还增添了当代音乐人的Remix版本。Remix部分集结了Todd Rundgren, Hank Shocklee, King Britt, Sal P (Liquid Liquid), Deantoni Parks, Tewz, Free The Robots, and The Gaslamp Killer, Amir Yaghmai 和Kool Keith 等各种领域的音乐人，风格各异，大呼过瘾。

GRAY is a collective started by painter Jean Michel-Basquiat and performance artist Michael Holman, named after the famous anatomy book Gray’s Anotomy. GRAY was formed during the New York No Wave period, when tunelessness, noise and other non-mainstream sounds were adopted by these artists as a counter to the mainstream.

Today’s recommendation is the 2019 repress from DJ’s palimpsest, US underground label Ubiquity. Featuring not only the original tracks, but also adding remixes from contemporary artists, the remix section brings together Todd Rundgren, Hank Shocklee, King Britt, Sal P (Liquid Liquid), Deantoni Parks, Tewz, Free The Robots, and The Gaslamp Killer, Amir Yaghmai and Kool Keith, among others, in a variety of genres and styles.

Today’s recommendations are two, an original track from the album and a Remix version.

如果说Dabeull是法式放克风格的代表，那么来自马赛的Mofak，就是融合美式肌肉和法式浪漫的典范。你可以在他的制作中听到来自Funkadelic的癫狂和抽象；还有Don Blackman的轻盈和优雅；当然还有来自西岸制作人Battlecat，DJ Quik等人的慵懒律动。

专辑中另一位主角，来自魁北克的Emcee Originate，极具天赋，从他的歌词中你可以感受到，他也流淌着P系血液。

If Dabeull is the epitome of Morden French funk, then Mofak, from Marseille, is an example of the fusion of American muscle and French romance. You can hear the madness and abstraction of Funkadelic; the lightness and elegance of Don Blackman; and, of course, the lay back grooves of West Coast producers such as Battlecat and DJ Quik in his production.

The other main character on the album, Emcee Originate from Quebec, is extremely talented, and you can sense from his lyrics that he also has P Funk blood in his veins.

四位音乐挖掘者聚在一起玩音乐，直接是YĪN YĪN。乐队是在荷兰的马城组建的。感觉一个安静，并没有太多事情发生的地方。于是，这四位自己开办派对和做DJ。作为一个中国人，听他们的音乐是觉得熟悉又新鲜。会以为是某些东南亚的庆典，或者是中国古装功夫片的配乐。然后，其中有这的士高的节奏，迷幻的吉他和合成器，还有相当派对的气氛。如同一个DJ在混音自己五花八门的音乐。奇艺的组合、连接让整个派对停不下来。

To make four crate diggers play as one (band), this is YĪN YĪN. Four of them are serious diggers. The band formed in Maastricht. Feeling like not so many things were going on, but the four went to be party organisers and DJs. As a Chinese person, I hear a very familiar yet fresh sound while listening to their music. You can mistake it for music from East-Asian local ceremonies or Chinese old-school Kongfu movies. Then, in one second, it is the same thing but adds a disco beat, psychedelic guitar, synth and a party vibe. This is how DJs mix songs and make the party move.
