不知道有没有人看过永恒族电影中，那个生长在地球上的巨人破土而出的那一幕。专辑封面的三个巨头就如同那个场面，确实这三人也都是日日巡回在宇宙的角色，看看开头视频就知道。

专辑内容更有意思，几乎每一首都能勾起耳虫效应。他们三个人就仿佛是三个行星吞噬者，在疯狂汲取了多个行星级能量后，作出了这张专辑。

I don’t know if anyone has seen the scene in the Eternals movie where the giant that grows inside the Earth breaks out of the ground. The three giants on the album cover are just like that scene, and the three gaints who produced this album is definitely out of this world, just check out the video in the beginning.

The content of the album is even more interesting, with almost every song evoking the earworm effect. It‘s as if the three of them were three planet devourers who made this album after feeding wildly on multiple planetary levels of energy.

Rodinia 是 JJ Whitefield 的另一个乐队, 或是分身. 创作的音乐说是新的尝试吧, 在 Krautrock 实验先锋精神的笼罩下好像也不是什么新的动作了. 它和 JJ Whitefield 之前主导的组合有一个不同: 很多地使用了合成器和田野录音; 添加很多真实环境和氛围, 用这个“容器” 中回荡的声音, 展现 afrobeat, ethio jazz 和灵魂的关系. 如同有着可视化功能的声响用振动带着脑子进入了凸面显示器里, 跟随绿色频闪射线的导览飞过地球变化的历史, 一直看到地球的初次重塑.

Rodinia is the other band, or alter ego, of JJ Whitefield. The music is new, but not new in Krautrock‘s experimental spirit. It differs from JJ Whitefield’s groups previously: a lot of use of synthesisers and field recordings, added into the music, natural environments and atmospheres, and the sounds reverberating in this ‘container’ show the relationship between afrobeat, ethio jazz (what JJ and his friends are drawn to) and human souls. It has that sound-to-visual vibration which strangely navigates my mind into a convex monitor and follows the flashing rays to see the world‘s first reconstruction.

Two Tales For The Mind 是 Broc 厂牌发行的一个合作系列. 其中 vol 2 是由 JJ Whitefield 和俄罗斯放克乐队 The Soul Surfers 的首脑鼓手 Igor Zhukovsky 一同制作的. 双人包办了所有乐器的演奏、制作和混音, 如同一只饱满的火龙果散发着迷幻神韵. 

JJ Whitefield 从开启音乐之路后, 随着自己的音乐涉猎越来越广, 合作的艺术家也是分部全球各地, 跨越文化和民族. 这样的状态何尝不是创作人的所期待的呢? Two tales for the mind, but a one-track mind.

Two Tales For The Mind is a collaborative series of releases on the Broc label. Vol 2 was produced by JJ Whitefield and Igor Zhukovsky, head drummer of Russian funk band The Soul Surfers. The duo played all the instruments, produced and mixed two songs, which are as psychedelic as a pinky exploding dragon fruit. 

As JJ Whitefield‘s musical journey has expanded, so have his collaborations with artists from all over the world, across cultures and nationalities. Is this not what creators look for in their music? Two tales for the mind, but a one-track mind.

今天绝对是值得纪念的一天，Squama厂牌的最后两张存货也被买走了，让我们暂时怀念一下它前卫和独特的魅力。

今日推荐的这张，是鼓手Simon Popp在Squama发行的较为特殊的一张专辑，仅以磁带的形式呈现。Popp的过往专辑，都带有浓浓的实验前卫精神，这次索性来了个全程即兴，从头到位就只有他和另一位Majar Birchard，在长达45分钟的录音中，时而轻快，时而诡谲。

而这里不得不提这位出色的颤音琴演奏者，她同时也是Embryo的二代领导者，也活跃在Karl Hector & The Malcouns，Express Brass Band，Rodina等组合中。

哦，而且她8.29号就要跟JJ Whitefield & Forced Meditation 入定组一起来中国了。

Today is definitely a day to remember, as the last two copy of the Squama have been gone, leaving us to miss its avant-garde and unique charm for a while.

Today’s recommendation is one of the more unusual Squama releases by drummer Simon Popp, only in cassette tape; Popp‘s past albums have had a strong experimental avant-garde spirit, and this time he improvised the whole thing from the beginning to the end, with just him and another Majar Birchard, all in a 45-minute recording, which is great.

And it’s important to mention the excellent vibraphone player, who is also the leader of Embryo, and also active in groups such as Karl Hector & The Malcouns, Express Brass Band, Rodina, and others.

Also, she‘s coming to China on 8.29 with JJ Whitefield & Forced Meditation.

fRUITY-Pick: More Mess On My Thing

如果说二重身这个概念是被MF Doom和Madlib给玩出圈的，那JJ这群人绝对是先驱了。Poets Of Rhythm，Karl Hector，Rodina，The Soul Saints。仔细看成员名单，其实都是同一批人。

尤其是Jan Whitefield，得益于早年经历，他十分热衷非系和美式的律动风格，Johnny！就是一个例子，他在其中的角色，就像是给浩克穿上了钢铁侠反浩克装甲。The Poets Of Rhythm则是另一个例子，其中的Killer单曲：More Mess On My Thing，原作由当年刚刚加入The J.B.‘s 的Bootsy Collins和其乐队录制，时至1968年，当时的Fred Wesley也还没有主导，但1969年之后，Fred Wesley & J.B.’s 所发行的专辑，相信大家都耳熟能详。

这里的Bootsy和Jan有种不可名状的相似，前者后续也几经变换身份，在Bootsy‘s Rubber Band，Funkadelic中游走。

If the concept of alter ego was played out by MF Doom and Madlib, then JJ’s group is definitely the forerunner. Poets Of Rhythm, Karl Hector, Rodina, The Soul Saints. Looking at the list of members, they are all the same people.

Jan Whitefield in particular, thanks to his early experiences, was very keen on afro funky beat and Americana grooves. Take the album: Karl Hector Pres: Johnny! for example, his role in the album was like put an Iron Man anti-Hulk armor on Hulk. More Mess On My Thing, originally recorded by Bootsy Collins and his band, who had just joined The J.B.’s that year, back in 1968, when Fred Wesley wasn’t leading J.B.’s yet, but the albums released by Fred Wesley & the J.B.’s after 1969 will be familiar to everyone.

There’s an uncanny resemblance between Bootsy and Jan here, and the former followed up with a few changes of identity, wandering through Bootsy’s Rubber Band and Funkadelic.
