On December 27, Chongqing hosted the launch ceremony for the "Belt and Road" International Skills Certification initiative. Among the 54 domestic and foreign skilled workers certified, 19 foreign nationals were awarded China’s first vocational skills certificates for hotpot chefs.
Chongqing, known as China's "Hotpot Capital," spearheaded the inclusion of the hotpot chef profession in the Occupational Classification of the People's Republic of China in 2022. National occupational standards for the profession will officially take effect in 2024. Recently, Chongqing conducted its first vocational skills certification for hotpot chefs, where 54 domestic and international participants successfully passed the assessment and were awarded professional certification. Notably, the 19 foreign participants are now the first-ever certified foreign hotpot chefs in China.
"I’m thrilled to have passed the international skills certification and earned my junior-level hotpot chef certificate," said Song Xiaopei, a Polish postgraduate student at Chongqing University’s School of Economics and Business Administration. After systematic training, Song gained a comprehensive understanding of Chongqing hotpot and developed a deeper appreciation for Chongqing’s culinary culture. "In the future, I plan to continue learning and eventually return to Poland to open a Chongqing hotpot restaurant so that people in my hometown can enjoy authentic Chongqing flavors," she added.
