The pledge stated: “If I engage in self-harm or suicide, it is unrelated to the school. Neither I nor my parents or guardians will make any claims for damages or compensation from the school or its staff for any reason, nor will we interfere with the normal teaching order of the school.” In the afternoon of the 25th, the reporter contacted the Wuhua County Education Bureau. The staff said that the school had already communicated with parents about the situation and would further inform them. The reporter repeatedly tried to reach the school via its public contact numbers, but the calls went unanswered.
The Wuhua County Education Bureau issued a report on the situation: On December 25, a network platform reported that Shimizhai Middle School required students to sign a "pledge," which attracted wide attention from netizens. After learning of the situation, the Bureau immediately launched an investigation. It was found that on the afternoon of December 23, the school organized a "Cherish Life" themed class meeting and had students sign the pledge, which contained inappropriate content. In response, the Bureau ordered the school to immediately invalidate the signed pledges and retrieve them, and it conducted a conversation with the school leader, issuing a county-wide public criticism. The school was also instructed to explain the situation to students and parents through various forms. The Bureau stated that it would take this incident as a lesson to strengthen management and encourage schools to improve their methods, ensuring they truly care for students' physical and mental health.
