See how many of your friends are following,
I bet you are not the only one.
Since 2004
Yesterday, I went to Shanghai Disneyland with my girlfriend. There were two foreigners with children who kept cutting in line, and many people let them pass. It wasn't until a father, who was also with his child, scolded them that anything happened. The staff then told the Chinese father to go ahead, and these two foreigners still smiled and tried to follow the staff to skip the line. My girlfriend and I were both very angry. My girlfriend told them that if they were in China, they should follow China's rules, or they could leave. They just smiled and acted as if nothing had happened.
I am a foreigner, so I felt I had no place to say these things to them. But no one around us helped my girlfriend or that father.
Since the visa-free policy, it feels like more and more foreigners are coming to China. Many of my friends who have come here really like China, but they find it strange why Chinese people are so nice to them, offering free food and drinks. I understand that China is a very polite country, and Chinese people treat foreigners kindly because they consider them friends. But recently, I have seen many very impolite foreigners who don’t treat Chinese people the same way.
I hope that as China becomes more open, it can also tell incoming foreigners that this is China, and if they come here, we only welcome those who show respect.
