Recently, Luohu Customs seized a case of a passenger attempting to smuggle multiple currencies out of the country by concealing them on their body.
Around 10 a.m. on that day, customs officers at Luohu Customs were conducting checks on departing passengers when they noticed one passenger entering the customs control area without declaring anything to customs, and displaying nervous behavior and unusual actions. The officers immediately stopped and inspected the passenger. During the inspection, they found eight bundles of banknotes wrapped in transparent plastic and secured with a belt around the passenger's waist and abdomen. Additionally, two stacks of banknotes were found in the passenger’s backpack. After counting, it was determined that the passenger was carrying 102,725 Australian dollars, 4,450 British pounds, and 3,600 UAE dirhams, which, according to the exchange rate on that day, amounted to 537,800 yuan in Chinese currency. Further investigation revealed that this was the passenger’s second departure within 15 days. Customs regulations allowed the passenger to carry up to the equivalent of 1,000 US dollars in foreign currency, but the excess amount was transferred to the anti-smuggling department for further processing.
Customs reminder: According to national regulations, passengers leaving the country for the second time or more within 15 days are allowed to carry up to the equivalent of 1,000 US dollars in foreign currency in cash. Any excess amount will not be released by customs. If it is necessary to carry large amounts of cash exceeding this limit, passengers should apply for the necessary documents from foreign exchange control authorities or related banks in advance.
