On December 17, a 31-year-old mother from Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, caught the attention of Chinese netizens after it was revealed that she had already given birth to nine children.
The woman, born in 1992, shared her goal to have 12 children, symbolizing all 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. "I want to have more children while I’m young," she explained. "Money doesn’t necessarily grow endlessly, but children are your true legacy. Material possessions eventually belong to others, but your children are yours forever."
Her statement sparked intense discussion online, but the story quickly took a dramatic turn. Netizens uncovered that her husband is none other than Zhao Wanlong, the chairman of Wenzhou-based Wanzheng Group, a company valued at over 2.9 billion yuan. As the news spread, many netizens joked, "Their bathroom is probably bigger than my entire house!"
The mother, Tian Dongxia, first rose to prominence in 2023 when a short video titled “Nine Kids Bring Happiness to This Mother” went viral. The video showcased Tian and her large family, earning thousands of likes but also inviting skepticism. Many questioned whether the story was real or simply a publicity stunt. "Who in their right mind would have so many kids?" one commenter asked. Others sarcastically added, "Married for 13 years and probably haven’t even used a single pack of sanitary napkins!"
As criticism mounted, Tian began sharing videos of her family’s daily life, which revealed a different story. Far from being overwhelmed, her children appeared well-dressed and well-cared for, living in a spacious and luxurious home. The videos showed no signs of disarray or neglect, and the family’s comfortable lifestyle sparked further curiosity. "With so many kids, their house still looks spotless," one netizen commented.
The online debate shifted dramatically when locals from Zhejiang recognized Tian and her husband. "Isn’t this the boss’s wife from Wanzheng Group?" one user wrote. Zhao Wanlong, Tian’s husband, is the chairman of Wanzheng Group, a leading manufacturer of power supplies and batteries with annual sales exceeding 1.2 billion yuan. The family’s wealth and status quickly silenced critics.
Further investigations revealed that Zhao and Tian were not born into wealth but had built their fortune from the ground up. Both originally hailed from rural villages in Henan Province and had little formal education. Zhao started working in factories as a teenager, taking on various roles until he developed expertise in production processes. After marrying Tian, the couple moved to Wenzhou, where they founded Wanzheng Group with modest savings of 50,000 yuan.
Through relentless effort, the company grew rapidly, and the couple achieved financial success. Zhao’s understanding of business operations and Tian’s support were critical to their achievements. By 2013, Wanzheng Group had become a prominent name in the industry, with Zhao restructuring the company and expanding its workforce. Today, the company is a major employer and taxpayer in the region.
Despite their wealth, Zhao and Tian have remained grounded, prioritizing family and education. Zhao has spared no effort to support his wife and ensure she does not bear the burden of raising nine children alone. Their household includes a team of nannies, chauffeurs, and even nutritionists to care for Tian’s health and the children’s needs.
Netizens were particularly impressed by Zhao’s hands-on approach to parenting. "He doesn’t see raising kids as just the mother’s responsibility," one user praised. Videos shared by Tian often depict Zhao helping with chores and spending time with the children.
Tian’s youthful appearance and upbeat demeanor in her videos further fueled admiration. "She doesn’t look tired at all!" one netizen exclaimed. "It’s because her husband shares the responsibility — she’s not doing it all alone."
Reactions to Tian and Zhao’s story have been mixed. Some expressed admiration for the couple’s success and family values. "If you have the money and resources, why not have more kids?" one user commented. Another added, "They’re giving their children a loving and stable environment — that’s what matters most."
Others, however, remained critical, suggesting the couple’s videos were part of a calculated strategy to gain social media fame. "Everything looks too perfect. Are they trying to go viral and sell something later?" one skeptic asked. Nevertheless, the family’s financial independence and transparency have largely silenced claims of fakery.
When asked why she wants so many children, Tian gave a simple yet poignant response: "I don’t want my husband’s good genes to go to waste."
As one netizen aptly concluded, "The rich live in a world we can’t imagine. It’s not just about their money; it’s about their mindset."
