A tourist’s attempt to capture the perfect selfie with a moving train nearly turned fatal after she was struck by an oncoming locomotive. The dramatic incident occurred on December 14, yet the 55-year-old woman, identified as Lui, managed to escape with her life.
Footage of the event shows Lui positioning herself dangerously close to the tracks while trying to get the ideal photo with the approaching train as her backdrop. Despite the train driver’s repeated honking to warn her, Lui remained focused on her selfie, unaware of the looming danger.
The train’s front corner struck Lui’s shoulder, sending her tumbling to the ground. Startlingly, she survived the impact with only an injury to her left foot. A friend quickly rushed to her side, and footage captured Lui lying on the ground with her head resting on her lap.
The collision caused a significant disruption, delaying the train for 60 minutes and affecting 62 passengers across five scheduled trips. Local authorities confirmed that Lui and her group had violated safety regulations by entering the restricted track area, a recurring issue on the railway.
This is not the first time incidents have occurred along the scenic Alishan Forest Railway, which attracts countless tourists annually. According to local media, authorities have previously intervened in at least 30 instances where visitors were caught trespassing on the tracks.
