On September 30, Chinese customs reported a case involving a foreign traveler who violated regulations by bringing excessive amounts of currency into the country.
Recently, customs officials at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport intercepted a passenger at the inspection channel who was carrying an unusually high amount of cash. During the inspection of the passenger’s luggage, the scanning images revealed numerous bundles of rectangular paper items, suspected to be currency. Upon further examination, customs officers found that the traveler’s suitcase was stuffed with bundles of $100 and $50 bills. In total, over $180,000 was confiscated, equivalent to more than 12.6 million yuan.Customs officials remind travelers that, according to relevant laws and regulations, cash currency is a restricted item for entry and exit.
