The three individuals, foreign university students visiting China as tourists, had initially obtained temporary entry permits valid until August 13. However, due to limited travel funds, they sought to find the most affordable return flights and discovered that the cheapest option was on August 18. Faced with a permit that only allowed them to stay until August 13, the trio decided to alter the "3" on their permits to an "8" in an attempt to illegally extend their stay and avoid detection. However, this act violated Chinese immigration laws and was promptly uncovered by the border inspection officers.
In accordance with Article 71, Item 1 of the "Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China," each of the three was fined RMB 1,500. Additionally, as per Article 62, Paragraph 1, Item 2, and Paragraph 3 of the same law, the three individuals were deported from China. The Luohu Border Inspection Station has issued a reminder to all foreign travelers entering and exiting China to familiarize themselves with the country's immigration laws before arrival. Travelers should carefully check the validity of their passports, visas, and stay permits. If a visa or permit has expired, travelers must visit local immigration offices to apply for an extension well in advance.
