Recently, a netizen posted on social media claiming that WeChat might automatically delete unread messages older than three days. In response, Tencent customer service clarified that during WeChat chats, all received and downloaded (viewed) images, videos, files, text, voice messages, and emojis are stored permanently on the current device and can be viewed indefinitely.
However, there are three scenarios where related records may become inaccessible. One of these scenarios is that unread messages are automatically stored on WeChat's servers for three days. After three days, these messages are automatically deleted, and once deleted, they cannot be retrieved.
Tencent customer service also emphasized that chat records contain personal privacy, and WeChat's servers do not store any of the user's chat history. If the data is deleted and not backed up, it cannot be recovered. Therefore, users are advised to pay attention to saving and backing up chat records to avoid losing important information.
